I’ve heard a lot of people complaining about metal bands covering pop songs. “It’s not funny!”, “Why would they cover someone like that?”, “I’d much rather read Dose of Metal all day than listen to this ever again!” and so on and so forth but let me tell you something right now: Fuck you! Some of the best metal songs to get drunk or party to are covers and I love hearing songs that I grew up with turned into metal songs.
Maybe it’s just me because I also enjoy my fair shair of cheesy Power Metal bands but a George Michael song turned into a Death Metal song just grabs my attention.
So if you’re like me, a true metalhead who knows all the lyrics to all Katy Perry songs by heart, make the jump for some fun cover songs to enjoy your Saturday with.
Ten Masked Men – Careless Whisper (Original: George Michael)
Ten Masked Men take pop songs and turn them into Death Metal songs. Brilliant? In-fucking-deed! They started with covering Oasis’ ‘Wonderwall,’ just to annoy a friend and released five albums since. If you’re not having fun listening to the song above, then you’re dead inside.
Andy Xiong – I kissed a Girl (Original: Katy Perry)
Hell yeah, you will hear me sing along to this song loud as fuck if you give me enough to drink… I mean, one beer. Fun fact: I actually really kissed a girl and liked it!
J.B.O. – Raining Blood (Original: Slayer / The Weather Girls)
What’s better than a cover song? Two cover songs! And what’s better than two seperate cover songs? Two cover songs turned into one song! Slayer and Weather Girls? No problem for German Fun Metallers J.B.O.! They just took Slayer’s ‘Raining Blood’ and combined it with The Weather Girls’ ‘It’s Raining Men’. Isn’t that brilliant? It fucking is!
So that’s it. I hope you’re enjoying yourselves with these cover songs. I sure as hell am.
