I’m taking over. For this week only, I’m taking over Simo’s Tuesday Trivia to cover the most fucked up man in the history of Rock, GG Allin. Varg Vikernes, Niklas Kvarforth and Marilyn Manson (ha!) have nothing on this guy.
I need to inform you first that some of the content after the jump is not safe for work so do yourself a favor and read this when you’re at home, preferably when children aren’t around.
August 29, 1956 marked the birthday of Jesus Christ Allin. That’s right, Jesus Christ Allin. He was given that name because of his father, who was a fanatical Christian, alcoholic and mentally unstable man. The Allin family lived in a log cabin with no water or electricity and father Allin forbade everyone to talk after dark and physically abused his wife and two sons if they talked with each other.
This environment obviously left GG Allin, who got that nickname from his brother Merle who wasn’t able to pronounce Jesus when he was younger, mentally unstable just like his father.
In 1961, Allin’s mother filled for divorce from his father, whose mental instability was worsening. Jesus Christ, who was legally renamed Kevin Michael Allin, then lived with his mother, stepfather and brother.
GG was a poor student at school, who was placed in special education classes and had to repeat the third grade. When asked about his childhood, GG said:
“Very chaotic. Full of chances and dangers. We sold drugs, stole, broke into houses, cars, etc. Did whatever we wanted to for the most part – including all the bands we played in. People even hated us back then.”
After attending a Clown College in Florida, Allin played the drums in numerous bands and later on started to front bands on his own, including GG Allin and the Jabbers, –and the Scumfucs, –and the Murder Junkies, –and the AIDS Brigade and so on.
GG Allin was most prominently known for his stage antics, that included on-stage defecation, self-harming and sexual abusement of male and female audience members. He also threatened to commit suicide on stage on Halloween 1989, but was in prison on that very date. He hinted that he wanted to commit suicide on all following Halloween’s but was imprisoned each year.
In late 1989, Allin was imprisoned for rape and torture of a female acquaintance. He allegedly cut her, burned her and drank her blood and, according to Allin, she did the same to him and only afterwards changed her account.
During his most prominent years, GG Allin was a guest on Geraldo, The Jerry Springer Show (video above) and The Jane Whitney Show.
Allin died of an accidental heroin overdose on June 28, 1993 after a show in Manhattan. He died in his sleep during an aftershow party and fans, not knowing that Allin already died in his sleep, posed with him for pictures.
That’s not where the absurdity ends though. GG Allin’s funeral ended up being a big party with fans and friends placing objects, like Whiskey bottles and drugs, on the dead body, which smelled of feces and urine, as Merle Allin requested not to wash or apply make-up to his brother’s body.
GG Allin’s life was documented in the film ‘Hated: GG Allin and the Murder Junkies,’ which also later included footage of his funeral. The film was originally released three days before his death.
So, that’s it for this week’s Tuesday Trivia. I hope you enjoyed it. Simo will be taking back his collumn next week, watch out for that!
