Isn’t it great when you’re listening to an ultra-brutal Death Metal band and suddenly a catchy melody kicks in? Personally, I’m a sucker for these melodic parts and many Death Metal bands did just that and incorporated parts like that into really heavy songs.
There’s just something about the contrasting sounds of really heavy riffs and catchy, melodic guitar playing that gets to me. Hell, Melodic Death Metal is based on that very concept but that’s not really what I’m talking about.
I’m talking about bands who are really heavy, classic Death Metal and the melodic parts I’m talking about are really rare within this band’s catalogue. It’s just great when a melody catches you off-guard because you simply didn’t expect something like that.

The Evil Amidst - Onward Into Fire
The Evil Amidst are a great Death Metal band from Florida and Lords Of The Nine is a great album. ‘Onward Into Fire’ is not only my favorite song off this album but at 2:28 starts the melodic part that I absolutely love.
Kataklysm - Illuminati
Shadows & Dust remains one of my favorite Death Metal albums of all time and ‘Illuminati’ remains one of my favorite Death Metal songs of all time. The fast and heavy verses coupled with the melody that starts around 1:21 and then finally turns into fast, heavy and melodic at around 4:28, just fucking blows me away. Kataklysm at their best.
Bloodbath - Hades Rising
The Fathomless Mastery is probably Bloodbath’s heaviest album (their heaviest release undoubtly being the Unblessing The Purity EP) and the outro of ‘Hades Rising’ (3:01) doesn’t really fit in with the rest of the album. That, in my opinion, makes it so much better though.
Torture Killer - Forever Dead
I think by now it’s fairly obvious that I’m a sucker for most of the stuff Chris Barnes released. Be it with Cannibal Corpse, Six Feet Under or Torture Killer. The greatest part of Torture Killer’s Swarm! is definitely the part around 3:54 of the song above.
God Dethroned - The Execution Protocol
Alright, ‘The Execution Protocol’ already starts with a pretty melodic intro but it then turns into a really fast and brutal song quite quickly. The melodic part, that still manages to catch me off-guard after listening to it about 50 times, starts around 3:25 and holy shit, is it amazing or what? Bloody Blasphemy, God Dethroned’s third album, is an all around classic (not just the song above), that everyone should check out.
