Well, I promised this article last week, didn’t I? You think I was kidding? Anyway, I just love writing for this site, it makes me get away with so much stuff. In case you are really wondering, no, the above sentence is not true. My careful research shows that there are few people (and I suspect Eastern European immigrants, hello to my cousins) who spoil the ratio of thousand metalheads to one Lady Gaga fan. For (only slightly) more accurate info, read on.
Well, I couldn’t actually get any real numbers, so as always, come here for laughs, and go visit WikiLeaks (something also currently related to Sweden) or some other website for truthful data.
- To list all the popular metal bands from Sweden, it would take me an hour.
- To list all the slightly popular metal bands from Sweden, it would take me a day.
- To listen to the most popular albums by the most popular bands, you would need at least a week.
- Metal sells well in Sweden. Not ABBA well, but well. In Flames managed to sell 2 million records world-wide while remaining pretty much death metal.
- Pain of Salvation applied for and entered the national Melodienfestival last year with “Roadsalt,” for a chance to compete in Eurovision song contest 2010. They didn’t make it (and the song was pretty bad, even for Eurovision standards, but let’s not get off topic).
- Okay, I’m going off topic – Finland is possibly the only place more metal than Sweden, and they’ve managed to win the Eurosong contest with Lordi in 2006.
- Another random, even more off topic piece of trivia — Lordi’s singer, named Mr. Lordi, is the band’s singer and costume designer. I laughed because I imagined a fashion designer when I read that. Fuck you too.
- The thing in the picture above should be every metalhead’s toilet paper brand of choice.
- MESHUGGAH!
