Playing with Metallica put a smile on Dave’s face
There’s a headline I never thought I’d read a few years ago. The fact that Dave finally joined Metallica on stage to play some old Metallica songs is amazing. I wished that would happen at the Big Four jams, but it never did. Maybe because the other two bands were there, and playing ‘Tallica songs would have been a bit selfish.
Anyway, Dave finally played with them, and not only that, original bassist Ron McGovney was also on stage. Pretty epic.
So what does Dave think of the whole experience?
“I thought it was cool to be just with Metallica but Ron McGovney’s up there and Lloyd Grant’s up there. I was kind of like ‘Alright, well, I’ll bite the bullet. I’ll be cool. This is not so terrible.’ I got up there and, you know what, I didn’t even notice them. I was having so much fun they weren’t even there.“
Haha, even after three decades, he’s still having a go at Ron.
“I didn’t even see him the whole time I was up there. It was cool that he was there. He was pretty nervous, too. Ron’s a good guy. I was locked into Lars’ playing and James’ playing. Me and James, we were like the the Toxic Twins back when we played together and we were a very very dangerous duo. And for a moment I think I stirred some of those old feelings up. I saw one of the videos and it looked like he was having fun. I know I was having fun. I had a smile that I went to bed with.“

These are the quotes I wanted to read from Dave for ages. This is what rock is all about, a couple of talented people jamming together. The petty feuds and bullshit comparisons between Metallica and Megadeth were/are idiotic, and although I am guilty of making plenty of those myself, at least I’ve done them for a laugh — people on YouTube took them seriously.
I hope this will happen again, maybe at a show I’ll attend. Either way, it took 30 years, but things are finally okay between the two bands, and that’s pretty awesome.
Remember, no matter what you think of Metallica or Megadeth, you can’t deny that James Hetfield and Dave Mustaine are two of the greatest metal writers of all time. The fact that they were in the same band together once is amazing. The fact that they can perform together for us 30 years later is even more amazing.
Okay, this is getting way too serious for Dose of Metal. Time for a joke… So, how come Dave Mustaine remembered how to play all those songs after all these years? He plays them daily before crying himself to sleep! — I rule.
Some cool videos of the performances after you make the jump… IN THE FIRE — See what I did there?
Geezer Butler joins Dimebash 2012
Dimebag Darrell was one of the most exciting and talented metal guitarists of all time. It’s sad that we lost him in that terrible tragedy in 2004, because I think he had much more metal badassery to offer us, and instead of kicking ass on stage (maybe in a Pantera reunion), all we can do now is remember the good ol’ days when this guy was alive and showing those dubstep/nu-metal pussies how it’s done.
But I digress. Dimebash 2012 is happening, and a lot of great names are taking part. Let’s be honest, a few not-so-great names are in there, also, but Dime liked everybody, so in the spirit of Dime-goodness, I’m gonna let Serj slide.
Anyway, Geezer Butler will also be there, alongside people like Scott Ian, Tom Morello, Phil Demmel, Duff McKagan, Jerry Cantrell, Tim “Ripper” Owens, and others… Sounds pretty awesome.
“Metal guitar legend “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott’s influence on the music community can never be fully estimated, but if the collection of artists and players at this year’s DimeBash 2011 is any indication, his legacy is as far-reaching and deeper than ever before. On December 14th, the world of hard rock and metal come together in a communion of thunderous songs and stories to tip its collective glass to one of the true masters of not only guitar, but music as a whole.“
Show begins at 8 PM tonight, if you’re lucky enough to go there, make sure you honor Dime by drinking and enjoying metal. Getcha’ pull!
Sharpie pen: Yngwie Malmsteen signature series
Yngwie Malmsteen has his own line of Sharpie! pens… Because when you see a lean, small pen, you’re thinking Yngwie Malmsteen, right? I would understand a double cheeseburger being named after him, or a beach ball. But a pen? Pretty weird choice.
Here’s what some guy who works for Sharpie said:
“It was fantastic to meet one of the greatest guitar players of all time and talk about music and several of our common interests. It was also an honor to present Yngwie with his own personalized Sharpies. It means a lot that he chooses our markers to sign autographs. He’s definitely made an indelible mark on music, and in some small way, we hope Sharpie has helped him make a lasting impressions with his fans.”

A photo of the pen after the jump. Hell, I’d buy one, for all the shit I talk about signature series, I sure buy a lot of them. [/hypocrite]
Korn probably sold enough records to make another shitstep album
I’m not gonna lie, I don’t really like Korn, and that’s putting it nicely. Thing is, when they decided to add dubstep to their sound, I realized I hate them almost as much as I hate Linkin Park or Nine Inch Nails.
The problem with tier dubstep album is that it sold enough records to warrant another ‘effort’ from them where the only instrument used is a Macbook Pro. I wish it would have pulled a Lulu and just failed, just to teach them a lesson. Instead, it probably sent a message: “Make your shitty music even shittier by adding random computer-generated beats to it — it will sell even in this shitty economy.”
“Korn‘s 10th studio album, The Path Of Totality, sold 55,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 10 on The Billboard 200 chart.”

Congratulations people, way to ruin an already ruined music scene.
After the jump I will treat you to a listenable song from this band, with one of my favorite music videos of all time.
Anselmo is unintelligible in Brazil
What the fuck happened to one of my metal idols? He used to be witty and funny in the early 90s, now he sounds like a damaged cellphone with bad signal.
Sorry Phil, love your work, but what the hell have you done to yourself? I can barely get through that interview, it makes me uncomfortable. I’ve squirmed less when I’ve seen ‘1 guy 1 jar.’
Part two of the interview after the jump. Also after the jump, the Phil Anselmo I want to remember.
