Scott Weiland is honest
If there’s one thing I like, is honesty. And Scott Weiland seems to be full of it (no pun intended… maybe).
In his recent memoir book (everyone’s an author now, huh?) he admits the decision to join Velvet Revolver was solely based on money, as he thought the band sounded like Bad Company at first. He hates Bad Company, apparently, so that’s a polite way of saying they suck.
I’m so sick of musicians sugarcoating everything and lying about stuff, this type of statement is a breath of fresh air. Musicians have to eat too, and their only job is playing music, so of course they’re bound to make some decision based on money.
It’s nice to have integrity but remember, integrity hardly pays your bills. You need to be rich as hell to be able to say ‘no,’ and not every musician affords to pass on big checks. Granted, a lot of filthy rich people are still greedy enough to sell everything, and that’s too bad, but not everyone is a sellout. There’s no such thing as a free meal and unless you’re offering to pay their bills yourself, stop demanding so much from musicians.
Anyway, read the whole excerpt here. He admits the band had great chemistry so it’s not all bad, eh?
It’s been a year already…
On May 16 2010, the world lost another Metal God. His name is Ronnie James Dio and he will always live on through his musical legacy.
It’s kind of crazy to think how fast time flies, can’t believe it’s been a full year since one of the worst news in metal history.
Rest in peace, Dio.
Bumblefoot releases new song
Bumblefoot‘s newest digital single, Father, will be released on May 17. More details on his official website.
When we talked to him, he told us that he considers the internet music’s evolution so it comes as no surprise that he’s releasing his music his own way via his website.
I wish more musicians would be this open-minded about the interwebz. So yeah, make sure you get it when it comes out, people.
You can hear a sample after the jump.
Brian Johnson will sign his own book
Brian Johnson, lead singer of the small indie band AC/DC, has his own 224-page book called Rockers and Rollers: A Full Throttle Memoir.
First of all, 224 pages? What the… I haven’t read 200 pages in total since I learned how to read, how is he expecting me to read 224 in a single one? Jesus.
Anyway, he’s embarking on a book signing tour and if you attend, he will sign your book too, as long as it’s his book. I assume he won’t sign your copy of Dave Mustaine’s memoir or anything, which is a shame.
When I said tour, I really meant three bookstore appearances in New York and New Jersey. Make the jump for full details and the cover.
Weak Recap: Yes we can, bitch!
A few months ago, I had a dream. A dream that we could recap our weeks on Sunday without falling in the blog cliche of just making a list of some of our articles. And my creativity and my egomania had sex and came up with the offspring that is The Weak Recap.
Basically we recap the week by interviewing each other. It feeds our egos and it’s letting you know how awesome we’ve been the week before.
So now it’s my turn to interview NFL legend, influential guitarist and all-around amazing metal bloger, Simo. After the jump.
