Spotlight: Woods of Ypres, The Soulless
This week in Spotlight, I’ll only be reviewing two albums instead of the usual three. Why? Because one of these two albums is way longer than I expected it to be and I simply didn’t have the time to review three albums.
Make the jump to read my reviews of the latest Woods of Ypres and The Soulless albums.
Video of the Week: Cult of Luna
Cult of Luna own. The song above, ‘Leave me Here,’ comes off their masterpiece ‘Salvation’.
I think, it’s hard to make a music video for Cult of Luna, whose songs are mostly way over 4 or 5 minutes long. The shortest song on ‘Salvation’ is 5:38 minutes long, while the longest song is over 12 minutes long. They somehow managed to cut the 7:15 minute long ‘Leave me Here’ to just over 4 minutes without taking too much away from the song. I do prefer the original version but this is not Weekly Dose of Metal, this is Video of the Week so just watch the god damn video.
Weekly Dose of Metal: Hatesphere
Hatesphere started in 2001 and since then had numerous line-up changes. My favorite line-up was that of the third album ‘Ballet of the Brute,’ that was released in 2004. It featured one of my favorite singers in the Death Thrash genre, Jacob Bredahl, who went on to front Allhelluja and The Kandidate.
Bredahl was with Hatesphere from 2001 until 2007, when guitarist Peter Lyse Hansen fired everyone in the band and started the band from scratch.
This next song, called ‘500 Dead People,’ is from the album mentioned above. Death Thrash at its’ best.
Interview: Tony Campos (Prong, Possessed, Asesino)
Tony Campos looks like a mean guy but he’s actually really nice, not to forget that he’s a great bassist and vocalist.
Tony plays (and played) in lots of bands, including Ministry, Dia de Los Muertos, Attika, Possessed, Asesino, Otep, Buck Satan & the 666 Shooters, Prong and the band he started his career with: Static-X.
Check out my interview with him, where we talked about Asesino, his involvement with Possessed and his epic beard after the jump.
Who wants free grind?
I may not be a huge fan of Wormrot or Grindcore in general but who could resist downloading an album for free and, on top of that, legally?
Apparently over the past weekend, Wormrot’s new album ‘Dirge,’ which is going to be released on May 3rd, leaked and naturally people started downloading it. Illegally. So Wormrot’s label Earache Records did the only right thing: they joined the people who are giving away the album for free and this time it’s legal. You can get the album here.
I’d download it myself but I already got it as a promo so I couldn’t care less (Yes, that’s the right way of saying it!).
