Thrash ’til Death – Big Four times four
I’m a Thrash Metalhead. I love Thrash Metal as much as the next guy, if the next guy is a badass who loves Thrash Metal as much as I do.
Metalheads have been speculating about The Big Four for a while now. Who deserves to be there, who would make it into a “Big Five” and so on…
It got me thinking… Who would be my personal Big Four? I couldn’t decide so I wrote a list of all the thrash bands I consider awesome and I came up with a total of 16 bands. Being the math genius that I am, I realized that’s four big fours because 4 times 4 equals 16. See? You’re learning about metal AND math from my lectures.
So I’m dividing my list into four separate groups. Each group is led by a genuine Big Four band (this week it’s Metallica, next week it’s Slayer, etc…) and has 3 other thrash bands that I like.
When you make the jump, keep in mind this is purely a list of thrash acts I like and has got nothing to do with success, influence or anything else.

Dose of Metal is going all professional on your ass! Are you out of the loop when it comes to being up-to-date with what’s going on in metal? Who’s releasing a new album? What is Band-X’s new album called? We’ll tell you! Why? Because that’s what we do. We talk about metal! WOOO!
Polish Death Metal band Vader (not pictured above) are going into the Herz Studio in Bialystok, Poland to record the follow-up to ‘Necropolis,’ which is going to be called ‘Welcome To The Morbid Reich’.
‘Phoenix Amongst The Ashes’ is the title of Hate Eternal’s upcoming album and the band released the album artwork and songlist. Check them out after the jump.
Everybody’s favorite French fries guys Gojira released the following statement about their upcoming album:
“We are currently working on a live DVD with important bonus section: ‘The Way Of All Flesh From The Inside’, the Sea Shepherd EP (a non-profit operation with a lot of people involved is a bit complicated to wrap, but we’re getting there and we promise to release these songs soon). We’re also composing a new album! We’ve written pretty much half of it, and we are very excited by this new material. It’s a big step for us. These songs are original and a good reflection of what we are today. We are so focused on these things that sometimes we forget to communicate with [the fans], but we’ll try to post more updates from now on.”
Iron Maiden have announced the 20.000th a new best-of double-CD, entitled ‘From Fear To Eternity: The Best Of 1990-2010’. Artwork and songlist after the jump.
Peter Tägtgren (Hypocrisy mainman) has announced the albumtitle of the forthcoming Pain album. The album is going to be called ‘You Only Live Twice’. Eh, I can’t even come up with a good punchline involving that title. Think of one yourself, you lazy fool!
And the most important news of the past couple of days was that Kerry King is a bobblehead! Or The Music Farm are going to release a bobblehead moddled after Kerry King. Whatever. Check out a video of the bobblehead after the jump.
Spotlight: Rudra, The Lost Broadcast
The people are waiting. The audience wants you to tear up the stage. Spotlight on for two bands who contacted us via the ‘Your Band’ form. Make the jump to see what I make of Rudra’s and The Lost Broadcast’s latest releases.
Video of the Week: Exodus
I always had a hard time getting into Exodus. Don’t get me wrong, I love early Thrash Metal but Exodus just not so much. But I’m refering to their early work, I definitely love their newer stuff. ‘Exhibit B: The Human Condition’ is an awesome album, front to back and ‘Downfall,’ for which they shot the video above, is actually my favorite song of that album.
Now, I might not like their early output but I do dig their 80’s methods of shooting videos. Just look at the video above, it doesn’t scream 2010 but 1986 at you. More bands should make videos like that. Who cares about going back to the roots with your sound? Go back to the roots with your videos!
Saturday Dose of Metal covers
I’ve heard a lot of people complaining about metal bands covering pop songs. “It’s not funny!”, “Why would they cover someone like that?”, “I’d much rather read Dose of Metal all day than listen to this ever again!” and so on and so forth but let me tell you something right now: Fuck you! Some of the best metal songs to get drunk or party to are covers and I love hearing songs that I grew up with turned into metal songs.
Maybe it’s just me because I also enjoy my fair shair of cheesy Power Metal bands but a George Michael song turned into a Death Metal song just grabs my attention.
So if you’re like me, a true metalhead who knows all the lyrics to all Katy Perry songs by heart, make the jump for some fun cover songs to enjoy your Saturday with.
