Gary Holt (Exodus) to play with Slayer
First things first, my Photoshop skills are obviously limited and working with Gimp doesn’t help in that case at all, so excuse this crappy picture above but I tried my best.
So now you might be wondering why the hell I put Gary Holt’s face on top of Jeff Hanneman’s face. Well, it’s simple: Hanneman called in sick and Holt will replace him during his absence.
So what happened? Jeff Hanneman had to undergo surgery on his right arm last month after being bitten by a spider. That’s right, a spider. Now, that further increases my fear of spiders because if something like this can happen to the axe-man of fucking Slayer, why couldn’t it happen to a bald, bearded fat guy (No, I’m not talking about Kerry King) like myself? The big difference is that nobody would care if it happened to me and Gary Holt wouldn’t write for Dose of Metal during my absence. Injustice.
Anyhow, Hanneman is expected to make a full recovery and then return to Slayer. That’s the good news. The even better news is that Gary Holt is going to replace Hanneman for the time being and probably outplay everyone but Lombardo each night, during his stay with the band.
We, at Dose of Metal, wish Jeff Hanneman a quick and full recovery and hope that all spiders on this planet drop dead.
Rammstein are invading America
Rammstein are invading North America. After playing a sold out show at the Madison Square Garden in New York last December, Rammstein are coming to the States for their first North America tour since 2001, covering nine cities, including some Canadian ones.
Rammstein are known for their love for America and their flawless English accents and are coming to the States in May for nine headlining gigs. Richard Kruspe, Rammstein guitarist and known New York lover (for real), commented on this tour:
“We have waited 10 long years for the perfect opportunity to bring our full show to North America. The time is now and we are excited to share this with our fans who have waited for so long.”

Devin Townsend news and free shit!
If you’re not familiar with Devin Townsend’s work, chances are good that you’re going to find something in his back catalogue that you’ll like. Steve Vai’s ‘Sex & Religion,’ Strapping Young Lad, his solo work, The Devin Townsend Band and Devin Townsend Project all feature all kinds of genres and styles.
With Devin Townsend Project, Devin released ‘Ki’ and ‘Addicted’ in 2009 and they’re going to be followed by ‘Deconstruction’ and ‘Ghost,’ that will both be released in June of this year.
In a series of tweets, Townsend hinted at possible features with Opeth’s Mikael Akerfeldt and Joe Duplantier of Gojira, also Ihsahn will be featured on ‘Deconstruction’.
Now on to the free shit. A couple of days ago, Devin Townsend Project released a free live EP, you can get it here. Tracklisting after the jump.
Possessed unveil new lineup
What you see up there, is the new lineup of Possessed. Recognize anyone in the picture? The guy on the left, with the epic beard, is Tony Campos, former bassist of Static-X and vocalist of Asesino. The guy at the bottom is Jeff Becerra, the legendary vocalist of Possessed who is bound to a wheelchair since 1989 when he was robbed and shot by two drug addicts. Honestly, I’ve never seen the other three guys, which doesn’t mean that they’re not capable, I just don’t know them.
Jeff Becerra – Vocals
Emilio Marquez (Sadistic Intent) – Drums
Tony Campos (Static-X, Prong, Asesino) – Bass
Kelly Mclauchlin (Diabolic, Unholy Ghost, Pessimist) – Guitar
Daniel Gonzalez (Nailshitter, Occisas) – Guitar
With this lineup, Possessed are writing new material, maybe for a new album? It would be Possessed’s third album after ‘Seven Churches’ from 1985 and ‘Beyond the Gates’ from 1986.
Video of the Week: Amon Amarth
Hooray, I got another category to torture you people with my favorite shit! Just like my other collumn, Weekly Dose of Metal, Video of the Week is a collumn to show you stuff you might not know about just yet. Instead of just posting songs, this one concentrates on music videos though. It will not only feature music videos but also live videos, which are videos with music, too, so they’re music videos to me!
As you can see, I chose a rather well known band for my first post though. There’s a simple reason for that: Amon Amarth own and ‘Guardians of Asgaard’ is not only one of my favorite songs off ‘Twilight of the Thunder God,’ but also has a metal-as-fuck video for it. The song and video features Lars Göran Petrov, frontman of Entombed.
