The year 2010 in retrospect

We’re 5 days into the new year and I can’t help myself but reflect the past year. 2010 brought us a lot of good music and a lot of sad news. Legends died, other legends released new music. The circle of life, sometimes it’s bittersweet.

Make the jump to see what I make of the last year.

Korpiklaani ¡Ay, caramba!

In keeping with Korpiklaani’s gimmick of providing metalheads with music to drink to, I’m just going to say ‘Vodka,’ they released the first video of the upcoming album ‘Ukon Wacka,’ entitled ‘Tequila’.

What does the song sound like? Well, typical Korpiklaani Folk Metal. It doesn’t break any new grounds but it’s good for what it is, a drinking song. Check out the video after the jump.

Scott Ian celebrated his 47th birthday

On the last day of 2010, Scott Ian celebrated his 47th birthday. The guy still looks like 20 to me if it wasn’t for his grey beard. Metal will keep you young. And endless searches for a singer for your band will make your beard go grey.

Anyhow, Ian posted a couple of pictures of his birthday party via Twitter. Pictured are Brendon Small of Dethklok/Metalocalypse (pictured above), Joey Vera of Armored Saint, formerly of Anthrax, Robert Trujillo of Metallica, Brian Posehn and 2 dudes I’ve never seen before, one with a giant turd as a haircut. Check out the pictures after the jump.

Dose of Metal wishes Scott Ian a happy belated birthday.

Zakk Wylde isn’t illiterate

No really, he isn’t. Not like I ever claimed that he is but hey, just setting the record straight here. The guy looks like a viking-gone-biker (I won’t call him a redneck, nope) but he knows how to handle a pen just as good as his guitar. Or a laptop. Or whatever.

So after this disastrous intro, you still don’t know what this article is about, right? Right. That was the plan. I wanted to see how far I can stretch this without saying anything basically and you’re still reading so I guess, I win.

Oh yeah, the news… Zakk Wylde is writing a book. Seriously. It’ll be called ‘Bringing Metal to the Children’. Read the press release more here. At least they know how to cut to the cheese. I don’t. I’m lactose intolerant.

Cult of Luna writing new album

It’s been 2 and a half years since Cult of Luna released their latest album ‘Eternal Kingdom’ and 2011 seems to be the year for a new album.

A couple of days ago (you know, last year) Cult of Luna uploaded the first in a series of webisodes that capture the writing process of said album. Check out this first webisode after the jump.

On another note, is it just me or does the word “webisode” sound just dumb?
