Piano Metal

Keys make everything sound better, agree? Heh, who the heck cares about what you think. I love the sound of a piano and how nicely it works with metal.

See Be’lakor’s ‘Paths,’ Debauchery’s ‘Take my Pain,’ (Double Bass Drums + Strings + Piano = Instant orgasm)  or Haggard’s ‘Awaking the Centuries’ for great metal songs, of three different sub-genres by the way, that include the piano.

That’s not what I’m talking about though when I say Piano Metal. What I mean is metal songs covered on a piano. YouTube is plastered with covers but certain covers really do it for me and actually at times make the cover sound better than the original. Make the jump to catch a couple of Piano Metal covers that I, personally, really enjoy.

Death Angel release new video

Remember when we told you about Death Angel shooting a video for ‘Truce’, which comes off their latest album ‘Relentless Retribution’?

Well, Death Angel finally released said video. Were my predictions, of it being a cross of Saw, Crank and Indiana Jones, right? Probably not. Check it out after the jump.

Warner Music buys Roadrunner Records

According to Blabbermouth, who should know really, Roadrunner Records was fully required by Warner Music.

I don’t really want to get into detail of that story, because you can read it on Blabbermouth anyhow. I just want to know what that means for the quality of music, or lack thereof, Roadrunner puts out.

For years, Roadrunner put out great albums until it turned into the forerunner of Metalcore. Now that Warner Music bought Roadrunner, I can see them going down an even more mainstream route, which would be a shame because there are still one or two good bands on that label.

We will see, I guess. I can’t say I’m looking forward to the future of Roadrunner.

Pantera's Walk turned into a pop song

Have you ever wondered what Pantera would have sounded like if they were a pop band and Phil Anselmo was actually female? No? Me neither but the Swedish band Hellsongs, consisting of two guys who look… Swedish and a chick who handles vocals, covered arguably Pantera’s biggest hit ‘Walk’.

Are you interested now? Me neither but as it turns out, the song is actually not bad at all. Not my type of music but it’s done well. It’s not a carbon copy but a rearrangement of the original.

Make up your own opinion with the song after the jump, or go to their MySpace to listen to more covers (including Megadeth and Black Sabbath, among others).

Why Anselmo didn't appear at Dimebash

Last month Dimebash 2010 took place in Hollywood and rumor had it that Phil Anselmo was going to perform, he didn’t though. He was ‘sick,’ according to Blabbermouth.

Personally, I thought it was bullshit and that the rumor simply wasn’t true, but Rita Haney, Dimebag Darrell’s former Girlfriend now admited that Anselmo was indeed supposed to perform but he was seriously ill.

Apparently he and Haney finally buried the hatchet and hoped to do that publically at Dimebash, which was a success and I think, it would have been a really nice thing, especially considering that it was taped for a DVD release. Oh well, maybe next year.

Watch a video of Haney talking about Anselmo and Dimebash with Artisan News after the jump.
