Weekly Dose of Metal: Callisto
Callisto are awesome, they’re like a hybrid of Cult of Luna, Neurosis, Esotetic and sex – my four favorite things in that order.
The band formed in 2001 in Finland, and started off as more of a Hardcore/Metalcore kind of band (well according to Wikipedia, I haven’t heard/seen any evidence of that), but it wasn’t long before they moved onto more Doom, Progressive and experimental flavors of Metal.
Your Weekly Dose of Metal this week is a song from Callisto‘s first album, True Nature Unfolds, called ‘Worlds Collide’. The song starts off sounding a lot like the kind of work Cult of Luna produced on their Salvation album, but overall the song different enough to set Callisto apart from their contemporaries.
Haunted Flames
*sigh* Lame title on my part, but it’s been reported that a new supergroup consisting of members of Swedish giants In Flames and The Haunted has formed, and the band will be performing at the new Sonic Rock Circus festival, set to take place on September 30 at Klubben in Stockholm, Sweden.
The band are called The Resisitance and feature Marco Aro on vocals (ex The Haunted), Jesper Strömblad and Glenn Ljungström on guitars (ex In Flames), Alex Losbäck Holstad on bass, and Chris Barkensjö on drums.
Normally I would make some sort of joke about how mediocre In Flames and The Haunted are right now, but this band might actually turn out to be pretty good. Plus Marc Aro was a part of The Haunted way before their mediocre period.
More information as well as pictures of the band and their logo can be found at Blabbermouth.
Devin Townsend is nice
The Devin Townsend Project have released two brand new tracks from the two forthcoming albums, for you to download for free! That’s right, they won’t cost you a cent. Mad genius Devin Townsend isn’t daft though, because to get the two tracks you’ll have to do some “connect” crap with Facebook and Twitter before you get the links.
Are the two tracks any good? I have no fucking idea, because I’m just too damn lazy to go through all that to get the links. If you’re not lazy, congratulations – how’s that working out for you? But yeah, here’s the link.
Devin Townsend will release Deconstruction” and Ghost — the third and fourth in a series of albums to be made available under Devin Townsend Project moniker — on June 21 (one day earlier internationally) via InsideOut Music. I totally borrowed this from Blabbermouth BTW.
What do you get if you cross a transvestite, a disease, and extreme horror?
… The answer my friends, is no, not Lady Gaga, but in fact a brand new extreme Metal band Temple of the Black Moon. According to Blabbermouth, members of Cradle of Filth, Anthrax, and Gorgoroth have joined forces to create this new super group.
Temple of the Black Moon comprise of Dani Filth (CoF), Rob Caggiano (Anthrax), King (ex Gorgoroth) and John Tempesta (formally of White Zombie – and I totally should have slipped a zombie in that title now I think about it). An album release and subsequent live dates are expected to happen around mid-2012, which also coincides with the supposed end of the world. Coincidence?

Devildriver kick ass! Not only have they been producing ass kicking music for the best part of a decade now, but now I can stare at beautiful ass kicking Devildriver branded asses whilst listening to Devildriver branded ass kicking music, thanks to the above photo. How can life get any sweeter than this? Well ok, maybe if I had a girlfriend so I wouldn’t get so excited by the sight of the slightest bit of flesh 🙁 It would save me a ton on tissues too…
Click play below for a surprise Devildriver anthem. Go on, guess what it’s going to be…
