Monday overdose: Heaven Shall Burn
Nothing like an overdose on a Monday. I mean, it’s the beginning of the week, many of use have to return to work after a weekend of prostitutes, mass alcohol consumption and wild partying. So overdosing on metal is never going to be anything but a great thing to get the week going.
Ripped off from Inspired by Guido’s post on Saturday on Cult of Luna, I present to you today, Heaven Shall Burn.
The band are often classified as metalcore, but personally I find them far closer to the style of melodic death — and to be honest even that’s a slight stretch. The band implement quite a few styles, even black metal, but all I care about is that they’re heavy as fuck.
One of my favorite songs is ‘Combat’ taken from the album Invictus (Iconoclast III) and you can watch the video above.
Slipknot, Anthrax, Slayer, Jane’s Addiction members perform together
No doubt you’ve often wondered what it would sound like if members of Slipknot, Anthrax, Slayer, Jane’s Addiction and various other famous bands all got together and performed classic songs. Well, a couple of days ago at the Avalon in Hollywood, California, that’s exactly what happened.
Henry Rollins recruited various musicians to perform in the for a benefit concert, to raise money for Drop In The Bucket, a Los Angeles- and Gulu, Uganda-based non-profit organization that constructs water wells and sanitation systems at large rural schools in sub-Saharan Africa.
You can watch a video of some of the artists performing the classic track ‘Crazy Train’ together above. And don’t worry, luckily, not only can you barely hear Corey Taylor, but he also doesn’t stop to talk about how much he dislikes Rick Rubin or anybody else.

Diabulus In Musica sign with Napalm Records
I’ll be honest, I’m pretty lazy reader. Hence when I skimmed through today’s headlines I actually thought this story was something to do with the Slayer album Diabolus in Musica and Napalm Death.
Since it’s about neither, I don’t care. Go read Blabbermouth instead for more on this “exciting” news.
Sol Invicto can do metal
Remember Sol Invicto? They’re, from what I can gather, some sort of electro band (I’ve only heard of metal – so forgive me if I have that wrong) that contains a few members of Cypress Hill, Steph of Deftones fame, and Richie Londres who is the coolest member by default, because we interviewed him and he comments on our posts.
A few people (not us obviously, we’re all down with that electro stuff) were a little concerned that there was a lack of solos, double tapping and blastbeats, but fear not, because yesterday Sol Invicto linked to a piece of music they had composed that contained guitars – yes, actual guitars! You can watch the clip above (taken from a 2010 Gumball 3000 movie trailer).
Ok, so there’s no solos, no double tapping and no blast beats (or pig squeels), but you can take comfort in the fact it’s probably better than anything Korn is doing right now. The song will apparently be on Initium III – which isn’t porn, so I have no idea what it is.
For more on Sol Invicto, check out their Facebook page and official site. It’s not as good as porn, but definitely better than Korn.
Learn how to play like Killswitch Engage
According to Blabbermouth, Lick Library is to release a ‘Learn To Play Killswitch Engage‘ double disc DVD, a collection of classic tracks to help you learn the best riffs and solos from the popular metalcore band.
I could save you some money though and teach you how to play like Killswitch Engage right now. First learn a typical At The Gates or In Flames riff (Whichever you prefer). Next learn a melodic piece suitable for a chorus. Then learn a typical hardcore breakdown. Finally, repeat ad nauseam.
