Some Saturday interviews

It’s a late Saturday afternoon, you’re hungover and your head is pounding as you’re listening to the boring sounds of someone indulging in a 50 minute fretboard wank. No you’re not stuck in a guitar shop listening to some old man showing off, you’ve only gone and put a John 5 solo album on by mistake. Quick, put some Amon Amarth on before you die of boredom.

What does that have to do with interviews? Well it seems that I accidentally clicked on a John 5 interview by mistake, which, in case you care, can be found here. What I really wanted to be listening to though, is this interview with Amon Amarth‘s bassist, Ted Lundström, found here.

Amon Amarth will be releasing their 8th studio album Surtur Rising on March 29th (cover art found above, albeit cropped). Be sure to pick it up if you know what’s good for you.

In other news, a bunch of musicians you couldn’t care less about were also interviewed, including the Accept guitarist, my Grandma, and the drummer from Epica.

There’s something wrong here…

And here I am again, writing for Dose of Metal, and instead of coming up with my own content, just stealing borrowing the latest news from Blabbermouth, when I stumble on something that really needs the DoM commentary.

So, Aaron Lewis of Staind (Aka the band that should have ceased to exist the second they formed) has been interviewed recently on Michigan’s WRIF 101.1 FM radio station. I’d report on this, but I haven’t actually listened to the interview, because I’m too busy watching porn and eating a shit load of burgers (the only thing I have in common with Aaron Lewis).

So what exactly wrong with the world now? Politics? Corruption? Global Warming? No my friends, something much worse than all those things, I’m afraid. I have just learned that Aaron Lewis’s solo album has entered the U.S. Billboard chart on March 9 at No. 7. Yes, you read that right, it’s not a typo, I said Number 7! Are you fucking kidding me? Either there’s a lot of people with terrible taste, or Aaron Lewis just bought a shit ton of albums. Either way, this news is truly sickening. Look, even the guy in the background of the picture above is laughing at Aaron.

Evile to enter studio

Good news if you have good taste in music (and you should do, you’re reading Dose of Metal for Christ’s sake); Evile, the British Thrash revivalists, have announced they shall be entering the studio this weekend to begin work on their third album.

That should help dilute and destroy the wave of shit music we’ve had recently. Well… a little.

Lead guitarist Ol Drake commented: “This has been one hell of a 2011 already. We’ve been working non-stop on the material for Evile‘s third album since early last year, and the past few months saw the workload pile up drastically. We’re on top of it though.

The glass is half full

According to The PRP, Children of Bodom and winner of best hair style of 2010, Devin Townsend are planning a June U.S. tour together. More details on the tour, which was recently confirmed by Townsend, are expected in the next couple of months.

Why do I say the glass is only half full? Well, because I happen to think Children of Bodom are complete meh, but Devin Townsend is awesome though. That, and because I just drank half my beer.

Blast from the Past: Dio – The Collection (2003)

Normally I like to stray away from “greatest hits” or “best of” albums, mainly because A – They’re often cheaply put together label bullshit to make a quick buck and B – I’m a complete Obsessive Compulsive nerd that needs to own full albums, and not crappy collections consisting of random songs. I’m basically an album whore, which is why itunes and buying odd songs will never appeal to me. Ever.

So what made me recently buy Dio – The Collection? Well I can never pass up a bargain, and when I walked into my local CD shop to find this on the shelves at a mere $4.50, I couldn’t pass it up. Besides, it’s fucking Dio!

Read on after the jump to see my review of this collection. Will it be crap? Or will it be a surprisingly awesome collection of Dio‘s greatest music? To be continued…. After the jump.
