Radio, what’s new? Happy birthday Freddie Mercury!

As part of a very exclusive deal Dose of Metal is having with Google Inc. we will occasionally feature Google Doodles  when they’re rock related, just to bring them more hits, and in return Google’s CEO cleans our shoes. If you haven’t seen it already, head over to google.whatever see it above, it’s pretty cool.

On a serious note, let’s get to the real point of this article — today would be late Freddie Mercury’s 65th birthday, so speaking in the name of the whole Dose of Metal crew, we wish he was still around so we could make fun of him congratulate him.

In case you think Queen shouldn’t be mentioned on a metal site, well… you shouldn’t be listening to anything with guitars in it. In the end, make the jump to see the legendary Live Aid performance of their hit Radio Ga Ga, and get reminded of how rock and roll lost 50% of its charisma with Freddie’s passing alone.

Weightless in November

Tosin Abasi (Animals As Leaders)

Last week we got the new Animals As Leaders album titleWeightless – and this week, thanks to ThePRP, we get the release date(s).

The dates are following:

  • November 4 (Mainland Europe)
  • November 7 (United Kingdom)
  • November 8 (Unites States)

The rest of the world can suck it, obviously. Anyway, November is right around the corner, so we can probably expect a single or some previews soon, which is nice.

Interview: Richie Londres (Sol Invicto)

Sol Invicto

Two weeks ago I covered news of Sol Invicto‘s first EP being released. Little did I know, that the article would attract attention of none other than one of the members of the band, Richie Londres.

Only thing I could do at that moment (besides counting my blessings it wasn’t Stephen who saw it) was to ask for an interview. Richie was once again very cool about it, and as a result, you get quite a read if I may say so. We talked about a lot of things, from Sol Invicto, metalheads’ point of view on electronic music, trends in music and music industry, to me not being able to visit the West Coast any more without looking over my shoulder.

All in all, you’re up for a treat, so make the jump.

Marilyn Manson and The Beef made a video

Marilyn Manson

I just read this article on MetalSucks, and while I usually stay away from cross posting things of theirs because they already reek with sarcasm and insults, I just had to mention this here because I somehow completely missed this: Marilyn Manson is making a “making of” documentary about his new album, the director of which is none other than Shia “The Beef” LeBeouf. It’s called Born Villain, it’s apparently already been made, and it also covers the LA street art scene. Hahaha. I mean seriously, what the hell. Read the original article (linked at the beginning of the post, too lazy to do it again) for some quality MetalSucks commentary, I’m too busy laughing myself.

What they didn’t cover however, is that there is already a music video/short film out for the appropriately titled-song, Born Villain. That’s what you have Dose of Metal and me for, for accidentally finding additional shit and making this post more legit. I actually couldn’t make it to the end of the video. It’s so shocking. Shockingly bad. I mean, it’s the typical pseudo-artistic crap you’d expect a directorial debut would be (and not half as fun as the Ace4Trays video we covered yesterday), and saying the song is forgettable would be a compliment, it’s remarkable just how lame it is. See it after the jump.

Hear the preview for new Vader

Polish metal superstars Behemoth Vader have posted a preview clip for their new album, Welcome To The Morbid Reich. You can find it right above this text and you can listen to it if you hit the play button.

It sounds like… Vader! Take that any way you please. The album’s been out for a few weeks in Europe by the way, but it’s only coming out on September 13 in the States, which I guess is why ThePRP posted this, and I decided to steal it tweak it.
