Alice Cooper is full of great ideas

Alice Cooper

Not. Apparently Cooper, along with the surviving original members of the band, will be staging a holographic performance on May 11 at London’s Battersea Power Station.

“Featuring original band members Alice Cooper, Dennis Dunaway, Neal Smith and Michael Bruce, plus Steve Hunter standing in for the late Glen Buxton, the ‘Jägermeister Ice Cold Event’ will be the first time the group has ‘appeared’ together in the U.K. since 1972.”

Isn’t this just ‘awesome?’ Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t holographic technology one of the most expensive ones out there? So people will probably pay a shitload of money to see a fake concert. Wow. Couldn’t they just, you know, fly over there or something?

Chimaira’s big announcement [new lineup revealed]

Chimaira

Dose of Metal can see into the future, that’s why we’re bringing you the big Chimaira announcement Mark hinted yesterday, before it even happened. Of course, I’m just kidding, but being the no-lifer has its benefits — I’ll be “live blogging” the stream and the most interesting details, and updating this post. Join me if you’re too lazy to watch it yourself – it should start at 9 pm EST.

To clarify one thing: three members have left Chimaira, not everyone except Mark, but I figure he’ll be streaming tonight, that’s why the blurry faces. Now, make the jump and hit the refresh button.

Is there anyone left in Chimaira? [updated]

Empty rehearsal room

Andols Herrick has left Chimaira – again. That makes him the third member to leave the band in the past six months (after bassist Jim LaMarca left the band in November, and following the departure of the keyboardist Chris Spicuzza last week). That’s half the band right there. Combine that with the fact the two guitar players are currently involved with Six Feet Under, we come to the realization that Mark Hunter must be one lonely guy right now.

You can read excerpts from his statement after the jump, where he cites issues in the band and the shift in the music industry and his uncertainty about his future as the main reason for deciding to leave them. Wow, what a downer. But it’s a pretty good reason for me to go watch some porn and make myself feel good.

Update: Just as I was about to spank the monkey, something  interrupted me. Mark Hunter tweeted, reassuring that the band is not breaking up, and that there will be some sort of news tomorrow detailing the faith of the band.

In Flames reveal album cover and tracklisting

In Flames

Boring post titles and page hits ftw! In Flames have revealed the tracklisting and the cover for their new album, Sounds of a Playground Passing. When I heard the album title, I thought two things: 1) emo; 2) Korn. And when I saw the album cover, I thought Korn again. Who gives a shit, as long as it doesn’t sound like them, right? Well, tell that to the 2004 In Flames fan.

Read on to see the tracklisting and the album cover.

Tuesday Trivia: The most listened to metal band ever

iPod

First of all, iPods don’t have any commercials with metalheads, so blame Apple, not me. Anyway, in his Weak Recap a few weeks back, Guido joked stated that we are super-awesome. Something like the super-heroes of metal. And no, not that Kiss movie… Lulz.

He was right, though — we’re all-knowing, and tonight only, I’m dropping knowledge and revealing the metal’s best kept secret – which metal band is the most played one ever. Hurry, make the jump.
