Greg Puciato talks about file-sharing
Greg Puciato, otherwise known as the vocalist for The Dillinger Escape Plan, just made our lives easier. Why? Because we had plan of writing an editorial about file-sharing and the state of music industry for quite a while now. Alas, we are lazy, and it’s still on our to-do list.
Replying to a question asked on his blog, Puciato covers topics from the state of the music industry, mp3s, vinyls and CDs, file-sharing and its effect on the people who make a living from making music.
It’s a lengthy and honest opinion piece, and you might or might not agree with everything he says, but coming from someone directly affected by file-sharing, it probably holds more weight than being written by someone who is affected by slow download speeds. Which doesn’t mean we won’t revisit the topic — we will, and it’s going to be amazing. Until that moment comes though, make the jump and read an excerpt from his text.
Weak Recap: The Big Fourth
Welcome to yet another Weak Recap. Last week, Mark did me, so this week I’ll be returning the favor. We’re also taking turns interviewing each other. As usual, we’re looking back at the week’s most important headlines. Why? Because repetition is the mother of all learning. And it’s also a pretty easy way to make another post without being original at all.
Make the jump to get reminded of how awesome we were throughout the week.
Footage of Slayer’s replacement’s replacement is out
We’ve already covered news of Pat O’Brien (Cannibal Corpse) replacing Gary Holt (Exodus) who was replacing Jeff Hanneman in Slayer, who was bitten by a spider.
Whay are we reposting this as news? Because we’ve got something to add: Awesome HD footage of the first show of Slayer performing with Pat (from Vienna, Austria, taken on April 7th) has been posted to YouTube. It’s fan made (meaning someone smuggled a camera to the show), but still… HD! It’s almost like 3D, except with a letter instead of a digit! So, put on your HD glasses now, and make the jump for two more videos.
Cover your ears, close your eyes
…It’s headlines time!
Bret Michaels said that one day, Poison might make new music again. What does this mean? When will it happen? Should I be wearing ear plugs at all times, or just when I’m near a radio? This is the music equivalent of walking through a minefield.
Suicide Silence have revealed the title for their upcoming album. It will be called The Black Crown and is expected to feature 2343 breakdowns.
People behind the Grammy Awards have decided to trim down categories. There used to be Best Metal Performance and Best Hard Rock Performance categories, but now we’ll only have… Best Metal/Hard Rock Performance. Genius.
3 Inches of Blood have a new song out, while Five Finger Death Punch have an old member out… Out of the band apparently. Does that make them Four Finger Death Punch now? I’m just kidding, like I know how many people play in that band.
And last but not least, Dose of Metal got more awesome.
Interview: Kirk Windstein (Crowbar, Down, Kingdom of Sorrow)
Kirk Windstein is a man of many talents, but not a man of many words. He plays in three awesome bands, and he got to be interviewed by an awesome site. In case you didn’t figure it out by the post title and the previous sentence, he was interviewed by us. And in case you didn’t figure it out by everything and anything written by us, we’re awesome.
Yours truly got a chance to do a quick chat with him, so make the jump and read it. How quick was it? Well, you’ll realize what I meant by “not a man of many words” shortly after you start reading it. Which won’t take much, because the entire interview could fit a tweet and a half. Maybe Kirk’s become eco conscious, and he’s saving bytes? What do I know… Just make the jump already.
