R.I.P. Mike Starr

Mike Starr

I wish this was my brutal sense of humor and that I’m just fucking around, but it’s not. Mike Starr, former Alice in Chains bass player, has been found dead in his home in Salt Lake City. He was 44.

Members of Alice in Chains have issued a statement on the loss of their former band-mate, as well as members of Guns N’ Roses, Motley Crue and Dream Theater.

No official statement has been released about the cause of death, though in the light of recent events, we can strongly speculate that it was a drug overdose.

R.I.P.

Tuesday Trivia: Max

Max Cavalera

This Tuesday, we deal with Max Cavalera (once again). And yes, anything to put in the post title with Max would make it sound too cheesy. Max Bomb. Max Volume. Max Trivia. See? So I just left it Max.

No, we’re not counting how many words and words combinations he used in all the songs he made in his long career (15, if you’re really interested, and that includes aargh and uuurgh), nor will be counting how many children and step-children he’s had as guest artists on his various projects (I couldn’t be bothered to count that one).

No, we deal with a different Max today. Read on.

Mirror, mirror on the wall…

Loudness War

Who’s the loudest of them all? Is it AC/DC? No, it’s not AC/DC. In fact, Justin Bieber is much louder than AC/DC.

What the fuck am I talking about? Loudness war. So yeah, take that fist you had pointed at me back. There’s a geeky event called Dynamic Range Day, and the guys behind it have took some of the most memorable (and/or simply loudest) albums, and made a little graph that shows how albums got progressively louder over the course of the past few decades (and I’d say musically worse, but who’s asking for my opinion).

Wondering who’s the first on the list? Well, click that “continue reading” button then. But trust me, you know.
