Think Tankian

Serj Tankian

Serj Tankian, the up and coming politician and/or general douchebag, has many tricks up his sleeve when it comes to being creative and spreading his message. Here’s how it went for his first solo album: 1) Release album. 2) Release a symphonic version of said album.

He decided to push the envelope for his second solo album, Imperfect Harmonies (read a review here): 1) Release album. 2) Release a remix version of said album.

To make things worse, it seems that he couldn’t pay enough amateurs to remix the entire thing, so only “selected” tracks will make it as an EP. View the cover after the jump.

Napalm Death to appear in “Skins”

Napalm Death are branching out. First they were a band, now they’re an aspiring art/theatre collective. Okay, I’m just fucking around, but the band will appear in the new episode of British TV show “Skins” (it’s a TV show, not a skinhead convention). Here’s what Barney had to say:

“When the producers first submitted the idea, they had me down to play this Axl Rose type character,” laughed Napalm Death frontman Mark “Barney” Greenway. “I told them we haven’t got our heads up our arses and there’s no way that we’d behave that way.

Stop. Don’t you just love this guy?

I had a scene with the character Rich [Hardbeck, played by 17-year-old Alex Arnold]. He’s a metal fan and I tell him to think for himself. Unfortunately, they gave [the scene] the big snip by the sounds of it. It was a good experience, but I don’t think I could act my way out of a paper bag!”

You can read his thoughts on TV shows’ portrayal of teenagers in UK if you visit the article here. I’ve never watched “Skins,” but I do love “Misfits” (it’s a TV show, not a band). Do they have anything in common? How the fuck should I know, I’m just saying.

Tuesday Trivia: Lucky Number …

Group photo

Over the past few days, there were heavy rumors of Corey Taylor joining Velvet Revolver behind the microphone (lolwat). After reading the news, three thoughts went through my head: 1) This is the end of Slipknot; 2) I need to take a crap; 3) Corey’s comments were (somewhat) interesting.

After I left the toilet, I came back to reading the article. So, what Corey basically says is that he’s kind of outgrown Slipknot (he’s not that whiny kid anymore, now he’s a douschy adult) and that the band lost a huge part when Paul Gray died. Well, with all respect to Paul (may he rest in piece), he might have contributed more than the others, but he’s still a member of a band that can loose half its members and not many people would notice.

Which got me thinking: Can Slipknot continue even if Corey leaves (I think a few people would jump with joy at news of them having a new vocalist)? Does anyone really care at this point (I think a few more people would jump with joy at news of them breaking up)? And finally, the theme of today’s trivia: is there a band on this planet that has more (useless) members than Slipknot?

My thoughts on: Korn

Korn

Once upon a time, in what seems a parallel, reverse universe today, before Fieldy had only three functioning brain cells, back when Munky actually tricked us into believing he can play guitar, way before Jonathan sounded like a broken record, and when they were actually a proper band, not the Jonathan Davis Experience they are for the most part today, Korn were actually a good band.

A great one? Metal? Not the discussion here. But the latest news on them (already) planning a new, Soundgarden influenced album have made me want to revisit Korn, and see what the hell made them one of my favorite bands in the first place. There, I said it.

Joey Belladonna is a solo artist first

Joey Belladonna

…A man who has yet to learn what a comb is second, and the singer for Anthrax third.

We would usually go straight to making jokes and predictions of Anthrax losing their singer for the 5th time (in the past year), but we know that since the Big Four is (still) happening, Joey is most likely to stick around for the foreseeable future. He is using the opportunity of the band being busy with side projects to schedule a few solo dates.

It is still unclear if “Wake Me Up Before You Go Go” will make the set list, as requested by Scott Ian.
