Devin Townsend: Free live EP to come next week

Devin Townsend

This is the last time I’m using descriptive post titles. Why? Because there’s nothing left for me to write now. Well, they say repetition is the mother of learning:

Sometimes next week, Devin Townsend is going to release a downloadable EP on Century Media’s website, according to a tweet he made earlier.

Mark your calendars. How, you might ask? Well, I don’t know, we suggest you mark each day as “Dose of Metal is awesome,” that will remind you to check the website. We can’t promise we’ll remember to report if it’s out or not, though.

Tuesday Trivia: Heavy metal shootout

Tank... It's metal, get it?

This week’s Tuesday Trivia is inspired by the recent tragic shootings in Tuscon, Arizona. When I say inspired, don’t worry, this post isn’t my manifesto on doing something similar because I watched this on TV and it made me do it. No, the voices in my head are drowned out by all the loud music I play.

By now you’ve probably figured out what I’m talking about. Bang bang.

Captain Overboard offer album for download

Captain OVerboard--Radio Earth!

There are two things Captain Overboard–Radio Earth! can do well: make good music and make it impossible for me to use their entire name in the post title. You had to trust us for the first thing (read our review of their debut album here), but now that’s about to change, because the band have offered their entire album for stream and download on their bandcamp page. The album comes in high quality mp3 and FLAC formats, and the offer stands for limited time, so rush over there and check it out.

You can also hear a few songs after you make the jump. Do that as well.

Disturbed let you in on their secret

Disturbed

Another nu metal post, you might be thinking. Well, it seems it’s (the) shit right now, and we’re all about selling out and following trends. Which reminds me, it’s time to cut my scene hair and find my old red cap and baggy pants.

But I digress… Disturbed drummer Mike Wengren decided to let us in on the secret behind their success. I was ready to place my bet on the fact that they might hide an actual dog in the studio which records “vocals” for half their songs, but his version is different — he says they’re successful because they don’t have filler songs.

“That’s not the way we go,” Wengren told RockAAA.com. “We feel like every song on the record could be a single, and our fans know that. They know when the buy a record of ours they are going to get a full package, they know we won’t let them down and they don’t let us down either. Our fans are very loyal and very passionate about us.”

Well, I guess in a way, he’s right, there are no “filler” songs because all the songs are of similar (low) quality. But I’m just being mean now. They’re also re-releasing their first album, which I guess means they don’t do filler albums either. Or am I really just telling the truth?

Hey girls, Piggy D. has something for you

Usually I’d insert a joke about something in his pants, but this time, it’s literally about his pants.

Rob Zombie bassist Matt Montgomery (a.k.a. Piggy D.) is selling his one-of-a-kind, hand-detailed pants worn on stage during the Ozzy Osbourne/Rob Zombie tour in 2007/2008 via eBay. The auction ends January 27. The base garment is a pair of black stretch jeans, in a women’s size 3. A very slim fit, but this is one of the few pieces of stage clothes left over that are still wearable. They were hand-sewn and studded by Piggy himself. This is an extremely rare piece that can be signed and personalized at the winner’s request.

So if you have a thing for a pair of jeans fit for women some guy used to sweat in for an hour and a half, go to eBay now, and make the jump to check them out:
