In non-metal news…

Linkin Park's "Waiting for the End"Waiting for the End is the newest Linkin Park video. It’s allso the best way to describe how most people feel when they give their new album (and this video) a shot. A more pretentious description by the director, Joe Hahn follows.

“It was an opportunity to experiment with pushing the digital envelope as it pertains to the visual language created thus far for A Thousand Suns. It was my attempt to digitally crush us to the point that you feel the soul of the music through what has become the essence of us.

We become the ghosts in the machine. Some may say that because of technology, we lose a sense of who we are. I counter that by illustrating that we can get closer to who we are if we sift through the noise.”

I  do agree with him on one thing. After sifting through the noise whilst watching the video, I got closer to what I truly am: not a Linkin Park fan. See the CGI slideshow video accompanied by some reggae-techno-pop music after the jump.

Shadows Fall: New achievement unlocked

Shadows Fall

Shadows Fall, the live-action MMORPG continues to grow in Asia. It seems they have gained enough experience to upgrade their stamina (and singer’s hair), so the next quest was easily won. The Realms of Taipei suffered some damage to their ears, and the screenshots of the battle can be seen below.

Meanwhile, the band has announced a listening party for their new live CD/DVD Madness In Manila: Shadows Fall Live In The Philippines 2009 on Friday, October 22 at the Idle Hands bar in New York City. As a witty Blabbermouth reader pointed out, which we agree with, what’s the point in a listening party for a live album? Seriously? Why not just, you know, perform the songs live?

Heard Saw?

Chester Bennington

Remember those ancient times, way back in mid-2000’s, somewhere between 2004 and 2006? When people were still using MySpace, when the president was black only in a Chris Rock movie, and when Saw movies somehow managed to grab five minutes of everyone’s attention as a potentially good horror series?

Yes, those times seem so far away now. The only link to them is the (hopefully) soon-dead Saw franchise, with the latest addition, Saw 30 3D. We’ll make fun of the movie some other time, and focus on what this site focuses on: the music.

Though the soundtracks for these movies were mostly mix of b-side quality nu metal tracks, occasionally something good would slip in (mostly the third film’s soundtrack). This year’s soundtrack is nothing to get excited about, and if it’s any indication of what Saw 3D is going to be like, we’re up for the same thing once again, a few thrills and lots of meh.

The only thing that this movie might be worth watching for, is the fact that Linkin Park’s Chester Bennington (pictured above) has a small role in it as one of Jigsaw’s victims. That’s right. The moment you’ve been waiting for ever since you first heard One Step Closer is almost here. Quality entertainment, what can I say.

His (other) band, Dead By Sunrise, is actually featured on the soundtrack, but who cares about that. Continue reading to see what other lame bands made the list, as well as a bigger image of the Chester in a trap sneak peak.

Dark Fortress, dark cave, dark video

Dark Fortress

Okay, let me ask you a question: Why do all black metal bands make videos that are too “black”? Wouldn’t it be cool if a black metal band made a video that’s set somewhere other than forests, hills and caves? Immortal at least separated themselves from the herd with their (unintentional) humor.

Now you might be asking yourself “Could it be possible that Dark Fortress‘ new video for the song Ylem is actually different”? Guess what — it’s not. It’s literally set in a forest and a cave, and sometimes that setting is replaced by some CGI blur. Then you might say “But at least the cave is beautiful!” to which I reply — It might be, but you don’t get to see much of it in it.

In fact, the entire video looks like it could have been done in my room, with the cave and the forest added with some computer program… The only difference being that I could actually come up with some concepts, other than just standing there and singing about the end of the world. See it for yourself after the jump, and you can also read the singer’s sophisticated explanation of the song if you’re interested (not recommended at all).

Gene Simmons is after your ass

Gene Simmons

Heads up: if you’re reading this, and next to the browser you have a bit-torrent app open, close it. Delete the files. Format the hard drive. Because you know what? Gene Simmons is after your pirate ass.

Here’s what the guy with the big mouth and long tongue has to say about file sharing:

“Make sure your brand is protected. Make sure there are no incursions. Be litigious. Sue everybody. Take their homes, their cars. Don’t let anybody cross that line. The music industry was asleep at the wheel and didn’t have the balls to sue every fresh-faced, freckle-faced college kid who downloaded material. And so now we’re left with hundreds of thousands of people without jobs. There’s no industry.”

Are we going to discuss this? No, it’s been discussed to death, and unlike Kiss who won’t call it quits, we don’t feel like beating a dead horse. Are we going to crack jokes about how anything Kiss has released in the past three decades is barely worth $15, let alone someone’s home? We could… Are we going to point out that it’s hypocritical from a guy whose band makes half a million dollars per show to act like he’s one of the struggling artists? Yes, we are. Gene, your prime has passed decades ago, and you are still fortunate enough to make money, so please, leave the bitching to those freckle-faced college kids who play in bands and dream of being rockstars.

He also tried to come up with some analogy on file sharing and farmers. Read it after the jump, it’s quite up there with Aesop’s fables.
