Weekly Dose of Metal: Tenet
Death Thrash from Canada. Are you interested? Former members of Strapping Young Lad and Exodus. Interested now? Gene fucking Hoglan. Ah, now I got your attention.
Tenet was started as a side project of Strapping Young Lad’s guitarist Jed Simon, later to be joined by Glen Alvelais of Forbidden Evil, Byron Stroud of Strapping Young Lad and Fear Factory, Gene Hoglan of every band on earth and the latest addition, former Testament and Exodus vocalist Steve Souza.
The band started in 2002, recorded a demo in 2003 and released their first album ‘Sovereign’ in 2009. This next song, ‘Being and Nothingness,’ comes off that album.
Weekly Dose of Metal: Swashbuckle
More Pirate Metal! Second week in a row, double yarr! Yarr Yarr! Alright, enough of that crap. After I introduced you to Pirate Metal last week, I just can’t not mention Swashbuckle. In contrast to Alestorm, Swashbuckle don’t play pirate themed Metal but have Pirate themed lyrics. In terms of music, Swashbuckle play Old School influenced Thrash Metal but they dress up as pirates and sing about looting so that makes them Pirate Metal!
Anyhow, to introduce you to Swashbuckle, I’m bringing you a song off their first album, called ‘Welcome Aboard’.
Weekly Dose of Metal: Alestorm
It’s time for another Dose of Metal. Twis week we’re bringing you Alestorm, True Scottish Pirate Metallers. That’s damn right, Pirate themed Metal. Yarr!
Alestorm started as Battleheart in 2004 but changed their name to Alestorm when they signed to Napalm Records in 2007. Ever since, Alestorm have been looting and molesting women all over Europe, like when they toured with Pagan Fest alongside Ex Deo, Unleashed and Korpiklaani. I’ve seen them live on that particular tour and I got to say that they are a lot of fun live.
This very song, called ‘That famous ol’ spiced,’ perfectly showcases Alestorm’s style of Pirate Metal. Yarr!
Weekly Dose of Metal: Torture Killer
We’re going back to the roots here. Dose of Metal started off as a project of mine via Twitter. I tried getting friends of mine into Metal by tweeting ‘Daily Doses of Metal,’ recommending songs to them. Doing this daily didn’t work out though, because of various reasons.
Now, that we seetled in with DoseOfMetal.com, we’re resurrecting the doses, this time doing it weekly instead of daily. I’ll just post a random song that I like and that I think is worth checking out.
We’re starting off with Torture Killer. A band that started as a Six Feet Under cover band and then somehow convinced Six Feet Under vocalist Chris Barnes to join them and the bunch recorded the album ‘Swarm!’ together. Barnes isn’t with TK anymore though but they continued with a new singer and released the album ‘Severs’ with him in 2009. This is a song of said album, called ‘I bathe in their Blood’. Enjoy!
