Brand new interview with Sully Erna

Hey, I know what you’re thinking on this early Wednesday morning/afternoon/evening (what, you expect me to guess your time zone? Fuck you). You’re thinking that there’s still more things you don’t know about Godsmack frontman Sully Erna, that you really want to know, aren’t you? Well consider this your lucky day then.  Alice of Anchorage, Alaska’s KWHL 106.5 radio station, talked to Sully, and you can check out the audio interview below.

In other news, scientists have discovered that there is no God, with The Oracle, the fifth album from Godsmack, selling 117,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 1 on The Billboard chart, and thus disproving  the existence of any higher being. Either that, or it proves that “God works in mysterious ways”.

More over at Blabbermouth.

Note: We didn’t interview Sully, we just posted it here as news. It’s being passed around the web as our own, which is simply not the case. It was conducted by Alice of Anchorage, Alaska’s KWHL 106.5 radio station. We’re sorry for this misunderstanding, but it is not our fault since all we did was embed it here.

The Big Four Guitar World cover is here

The Big Four are featured in a Guitar World issue and we got the cover exclusively! If by ‘exclusively’ you mean ‘stolen from Blabbermouth.’ The cover is after the jump, and by the looks of it, the magazine itself features a poster of Dave and Jaymz fist-bumping each other. Sounds awesome, too bad this isn’t 1985.

Anyway, the site Glenrock Patch conducted an interview with Scott Ian, Tom Araya and David Ellefson about The Big Four and you guessed it, same type of questions, same type of answers. Read the predictable article here.

If you’re going to the NY Big Four show, we’re hosting a party on Skype for you guys, we can all like, videochat and drink beer together!!! [/lies]

Ex Korn guitarist likes the word ‘struggle’

As a regular reader of Dose of Metal, you’ll probably have noticed that my appearance on the site has been lacking somewhat in the last couple of weeks. You see, I’ve been going through some life struggles. You know, the usual struggles; like should I get up or stay in bed for another hour? Should I have left over pizza for breakfast, or would cereal be healthier? Should I masturbate again or is once enough for one day? And so on.

Brian ‘Head’ Welch, formally of Korn, has also been having some struggles of his own. Unlike my problems though, I doubt anyone really gives a shit about Head’s struggles. If you do care, you can find a new post by Head over at Blabbermouth. Like Brian Welchy Welch, though, I would have to question your sanity.

Head has also revealed that a new EP is on the way next year, and that the first single, ‘Paralyzed’, will be out October 4th. Lucky us, huh?

Filth sells… but who’s buying?

Last year’s Darkly, Darkly, Venus Aversa, released by the Linkin Park/Britney Spears techno influenced tribute act, Cradle of Filth, didn’t sell too badly. It seemed to make the charts across various countries in the world, if you choose to believe Wikipedia, that is. So, perhaps that’s why the band have decided to release a new mini-album full of remixes, live shit, and B-sides from the Darkly Darkly sessions. I mean, if you can sell shit once, why not repackage it and try to sell it again, right?

Scheduled for a October 17 release, Evermore Darkly will be a CD/DVD package that includes new tracks, remixes, rarities, an on-the-road documentary and the band’s entire set from this year’s Graspop festival in Belgium.

Let’s talk about Mike Portnoy

Former Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy thinks he will rejoin his former band sometime. Wishful thinking ftmfw.

I never say never. They’ve moved on and I’ve moved on. Mike Mangini’s an amazing drummer. But if the opportunity presented itself a few years down the road and I was available, I would definitely consider it. That band was my heart and soul for 25 years. There’s too much history there to ignore.

Read full interview here.

At least he has nice things to say about his replacement. I never understood why musicians were mad at the guys that replaced them. It’s like being mad at your former lover’s new boyfriend. If you split up before they met, why would you hate him? Just hate her.

I’m full of life lessons, should you need some.

Anyway, back to this Dream Theater shit. I appreciate Mike’s kind words to Mike ver 2.0, but I still think his optimism is funny. Especially since this is what Jordan Rudess had to say about him:

But the bottom line is, when Mike left, it left four guys there — four all very capable, qualified musical people — that weren’t really at the true capacity of what we all could do. Because Mike was a very controlling person in his role in the band. So it wasn’t so much about us not being able to do something; it was about the way that the positioning of the band, it was just going in a certain way, and now that we’re in this other phase, we’re just excited because we get to pretty much continuing writing music the way we were, but we get to kind of say, ‘OK, we’re moving on, we’re gonna do our thing and write the music.’

Whoops. Tough luck Mike, looks like the band is just ready to move on and is feeling great.

Exit optimism. Enter realism.

God, I write the dumbest fucking lines ever. Shit.
