Andreas Kisser kisses the Big Four

Scott Ian is a dad, so Sepultura‘s Andreas Kisser filled in for him on a bunch of shows. What does he think of the whole experience? Let’s just say he’s probably as excited as Ian’s son.

It was amazing. Anthrax… I mean, all the four bands here are the DNA of my guitar playing. I started listening to them, the heavier music, and I wanted to play the same. They were my teachers. And to be here, it’s just… I don’t think even a dream. I [couldn’t have] dreamt something like that to happen. And the good thing is it’s a very positive situation. Scott is not sick, [he doesn’t have a] a broken arm or something like that. It’s very, very positive. It couldn’t be better. So I’m very honored to be here, by these guys, and jam. We’re having fun.

I have to agree with him. He’s in an awesome situation. Scott is just taking time for his family so the vibe within the band is very positive, unlike the vibe of a band who just lost a member or stuff like that. Must be pretty awesome.

Sully Erna is a brilliant comedian

Sully Erna is really funny. Unintentionally funny. Because aside from reviewing his own albums, he’s also reviewing his band’s stage show:

I truly believe in my heart that, pound for pound, Godsmack is one of the best live performances out there. We’ve spent the last 15 years performing. We are good at it, great at it. . . I believe we can go up against anybody live. Foo Fighters, Rage Against The Machine, those guys are unbelievable live. They’re so good, so intense, so powerful. I think we’re that good. We take a lot of pride in what we do and put on the best show we can.

Read full interview here.

Haha… Good one, Sully. Keep it modest.

Fuck Iron Maiden, AC/DC, Metallica, and all the other moderately decent live bands. If you want to have your world rocked, go to a Godsmack concert.

Mötley Crüe blames Poison tour on fans

Instead of keeping his mouth shut and just focusing on being positive, Nikki Sixx keeps stirring the pot about the Poison tour:

When the concept to do something this summer came up, the economy is in such a bad state that we were going, ‘How can we do something that is different and the fans feel like they’re getting a bang for their buck?’ We loved the idea of the New York Dolls, so it was a matter of filling in the blank. Fans were really pushing for Poison, and we were like, [they] were something that happened after us [in the ’80s]. It wasn’t really what I or the band wanted to do, but you have to listen to the fans and we’re really engaged with the fans. I talked to Bret [Michaels] and said, do you still believe in rock ‘n’ roll? And he said, ‘I live and breathe it.’ It will be a great night of hits.

Read full interview here.

Let me translate: Mötley Crüe didn’t want to tour with Poison, but times are tough and they need to sell tickets, so fans wanted Poison and they had to cater to them and the financial prospects. But now that it’s happening, they will just blame it on the fans instead of taking full credit for their business decision.

Why don’t musicians just shut up and focus on the music? If fans wanted Poison, simply stop talking about it and do your thing.

Metalheadlines: Boring edition

I’m not gonna lie to you, all the news in this post is boring as hell and probably won’t interest you. But hey, it is what it is, so let’s get rollin’:

New Ozzy guitarist Gus G. (pictured above) has an upcoming tutorial video for Guitarist Magazine. You can find a sample video right here. Don’t hold your breath.

Evile‘s new album is called Five Serpent’s Teeth and it will be released on September 26. If you’re like me, you probably don’t care about its artwork. But if you’re not like me, you can check it out here. It’s not bad.

I didn’t watch the 2009 Tony Awards, but I wish I did. Because this happened. And Bret Michaels is now suing them. The lawsuit itself has been moved to New York. Isn’t that where Metalsucks is located? They should go there and make fun of Bret in person.

Corey Taylor (of Slipknot and Stone Sour fame) wrote a book. He will read from that book online via a webchat. This chat happens Monday, July 11 ad 5 pm EST. If you happen to be online around that time, simply avoid this site.

Supergroup Chickenfoot signed a distribution deal with eOne Music. If you ever wanted to hear what a post-David Lee Roth Van Halen would sound like with Satriani on guitar and RHCP’s Chad Smith on drums, wait for their new album which is due in September.

Die, Die Their Darlings

Just one day after I posted my mini-rant about Lombardo and his lame excuse for not playing the “Big Four jam,” the bands performed together yet again on the Italian gig.

As my stupid title suggests, they performed “Die, Die My Darling” now. Apparently they only perform covers that Metallica have recorded before. Weird.

Of course, not all members of Slayer joined in but hey, at least the jam happened. I’m sure crappy cellphone footage will surface soon.
