Scott Weiland is honest

If there’s one thing I like, is honesty. And Scott Weiland seems to be full of it (no pun intended… maybe).

In his recent memoir book (everyone’s an author now, huh?) he admits the decision to join Velvet Revolver was solely based on money, as he thought the band sounded like Bad Company at first. He hates Bad Company, apparently, so that’s a polite way of saying they suck.

I’m so sick of musicians sugarcoating everything and lying about stuff, this type of statement is a breath of fresh air. Musicians have to eat too, and their only job is playing music, so of course they’re bound to make some decision based on money.

It’s nice to have integrity but remember, integrity hardly pays your bills. You need to be rich as hell to be able to say ‘no,’ and not every musician affords to pass on big checks. Granted, a lot of filthy rich people are still greedy enough to sell everything, and that’s too bad, but not everyone is a sellout. There’s no such thing as a free meal and unless you’re offering to pay their bills yourself, stop demanding so much from musicians.

Anyway, read the whole excerpt here. He admits the band had great chemistry so it’s not all bad, eh?

Ever wanted to see Ozzy open a CD box?

Me neither, that’s why we won’t be looking at it here. Here’s a video mashup of Ozzy and Dio performing a true classic. Yeah, inspired by Guido’s post earlier today, I’m trying to stir some shit up. Or am I just remembering our fallen metal heroes? Good metalhead. Fight. Sit.

But, to address a certain doubt that arose once I saw the article promoting some new Ozzy shit, yes, he can actually open a CD/DVD/deluxe boxset for whatever he just released, without medical assistance. Cool, huh?

Anaal for free

Anaal, not anal, but you didn’t get excited for nothing because Anaal Nathrakh are currently streaming their new album Passion right here.

I’ve just had the chance to listen to the first two songs and not more just yet but those two songs (‘Volenti Non Fit Iniuria’ and ‘Drug-Fucking Abomination’) already kicked massive amounts of ass.

So if you’re in the mood for some Blackened Grind Industrial Metal (or whatever they label themselves), check it out because it’s definitely worth it.

New Machine Head album still in the works

What you see above, is the second video of Machine Head preparing to record the follow-up to the masterpiece that is The Blackening. “Preparing to record…”? Well, let’s call it “The Making of the New Album (Part 2)”, because that’s what Machine Head called this video.

As for rehashing old material, I still really hope that they’re not going to record The Blackening 2 and move forward. I don’t really know what I want from the band, nor what to expect, though. I just want them to kick ass, as they usually do, except for that period I’d like to forget.

As for the video, I really liked the slow motion part of Dave McClain playing the drums, especially with ‘Descend The Shades Of Night’ playing in the background. That’s one of the most epic songs the Head ever wrote.

Still, we don’t get to hear any new music and I’d like them to keep it that way until the album, whatever it may be called, is released. I just like to hear the finished product first and then maybe get a real “Making of” that includes sound with the album. We’ll just have to wait and see (and hear) what comes with the next video.

Get your Metal Blade free sampler

Last week I reviewed a free sampler from Basick Records, and this week legendary Metal label Metal Blade are offering their own free sampler to UK residents (don’t worry rest of the world, you can probably get it too). Unlike the Basick Records sampler, I’m not reviewing it just yet, because A – I’m lazy, and B – I’ve only just found out about it.

You can download the FREE sampler by heading over to Amazon.

And if the price of nothing hasn’t quite convinced you, just check out the tracklist after the jump. It features artists such as As I Lay Dying, Amon Amarth, The Black Dahlia Murder, Primordial and many more.
