Metallica aren’t selfish

If you thought Metallica are selfish, think again! They aren’t, that’s why they chose ‘Am I Evil’ as the one song to perform together on stage with the other three bands… They’ve performed together again at the Indio gig.

We felt that you’re not going to invite people to come onstage and start playing a Metallica song. That would seem a little selfish, so you want to find a cover song that had some resonance towards what’s going on said Lars Ulrich in an interview.

My personal opinion is that they chose this song as one band already knew it, and it was very easy to learn and practice by the rest. The performance in Sofia last year (which I’ve been to, cause I’m amazing) was really just a DVD moment, I don’t think they thought too much of it in advance… I think they just decided to do something quick for all the cameras, so that was an easy choice. But that’s just me.

I would like to be a little more adventurous and not rely on the same song if there are continued jams. There are other things we can do, and I know that Tom [Araya] from Slayer was talking about [Metallica’s] “The Four Horsemen.” Inviting the other bands to come up and play a Metallica song just doesn’t seem right continued Lars…

Yeah, I’ll say. I don’t think they should perform a Metallica song, but they should do a medley of all four bands’ greatest hits. I’ve suggested this to David Ellefson when I interviewed him, and he seemed keen on the idea. Wouldn’t that be something special that would honor all four bands equally?

You know, I’m not afraid to go anywhere. Maybe we’ll play a Slayer song instead

Read full interview here.

Or maybe you’ll just take my advice and do a medley. Dave could join you guys beforehand just for one or two performances of old Kill Em All songs you wrote together.

I should be fucking hired by these guys, so much productivity in a single blog post. And if you are considering seeing the upcoming Big Four gigs in Europe, read this rant to get motivated.

God bless reviews

Ozzy Osbourne is a very contradicting character. He’s a legend, yet he gets laughed at. He helped create metal music, yet it’s MTV that relaunched his career. He can barely string a sentence together, yet he’s one of the funniest people ever. You can’t just put a label on this guy… Or on his wife… Or on his kids… Sometimes they annoy you, other times they make you laugh, other times they make you go “WTF?”.

One thing is certain, they’re all pretty entertaining to watch, albeit in small doses.

So what about his new documentary, ‘God Bless Ozzy Osbourne‘? Well, I wanna see it. I really do. And it recently got reviewed by Entertainment Weekly, and it’s pretty positive… There’s one word in that review that really makes me want to see this thing… They say the film is honest. That’s very important.

If you can make it to the Tribeca Film Festival, check it out. It’s playing on April 28th and 30th.

Headlines!

It’s time for more headlines. News that aren’t worth individual posts. Wait, I shouldn’t have said that, right? Oh well…

Adler’s Appetite revealed their new line-up. Problem is, I didn’t even know who was in the band before and well, I don’t give a shit either. But anyhow, Patrick Stone is their new vocalist and Lonnie Paul will be playing the guitar from now on. Woop de doo.

All Shall Perish announced the title of their upcoming album and it’s going to be called… drumroll please… ‘This Is Where It Ends’ and I can only hope so.

When asked how far into writing a new album Mastodon have been so far, Brann Dailor (drums) said this in an interview:

“It’s coming along really good. We’re just about done. I’m excited to get into the studio and start recording.”

Jamey Jasta recently talked a bit about his upcoming solo album. Here’s what he had to say:

“It’s just more of the thrash and rock element in it. I think there’s a lot more clean singing than I’m used to doing. It’s a lot of stuff that I recorded for other artists, but it ended up sounding cool so I just left it in there. My engineer was really liking the stuff that I was doing. I still have a lot of guest parts on there — Randy Blythe from Lamb of God, Zakk Wylde, Phil Labonte , Tim from As I Lay Dying, Mark Morton from Lamb of God — so it’s just like a fun project before we do the next Hatebreed album.”

And last but not least, the Big Four were presented with double platinum (pictured above) plaques for the Big Four DVD. Picture of the happy guys after the jump.

Ricktallica

So, the other day I was having sex, and I thought to myself “how can my life possibly get better than this?” (not that I’m boasting BTW, I was alone, on the couch, watching porn… But that still counts!) The answer was obvious though… My life could get so much better if Metallica were to work on a new album, and do so with Rick Rubin once again. Well guess what? They’ve only gone and announced that very thing!

Yay! Now I can look forward to another album that’s so heavy, that it actually clips to the point of ear rape. That’s not bad clipping BTW, that’s just Metallica‘s music being too awesome for the speakers to be able to cope with. Duh…

Morgoth reveal new lineup

So it turns out that Morgoth have a new lineup. Which also must mean that Morgoth have reunited. Wow, you learn something new everyday… I’m trying hard here to contain my excitement, but I might just blow my load right here and now.

P.S. Who the fuck are Morgoth?

P.P.S But hang on; if they have a new lineup, then they haven’t exactly reunited have they? Or am I missing something? Regardless, apparently the band are a technical Death Metal band from Germany that I really should have heard of. Color me interested… If you’re also interested, or aren’t stupid enough to have not heard of the band, then more information including the first picture of the new lineup can be found at Blabbermouth.
