Tom Araya admitted to hospital

Slayer aren’t the luckiest guys lately. A while ago, we reported that Jeff Hanneman had to be replaced on Slayer’s then upcoming, now current tour and now Tom Araya was hospitalized in Australia after a gig and their concert in Sydney yesterday was canceled.

The original press release said this:

Slayer has canceled its appearance at the Sydney, Australia stop of the Soundwave festival after the band’s bassist/vocalist Tom Araya was admitted to the hospital where he will be kept overnight. The Sydney appearance on Sunday, February 27 would have marked Slayer’s second show on the annual festival tour. No further details are currently available regarding Araya’s condition or the exact nature of his ailment.

But don’t cry yet! Araya has since been released from hospital and his wife, Sandra Araya, has issued a statement on Facebook, which reads as follows:

“SPOKE WITH TOM =) He’s feeling much better! it will be a few days before test results come back… That’s all I can say for now! whoo hoo!”

We, at Dose of Metal, wish Tom Araya a quick and full recovery but now on to some more uplifting Slayer news.

As mentioned above, Hanneman had to be replaced on Slayer’s current tour and Gary Holt of Exodus joined Slayer for the time being. There’s video footage available from Slayer’s first performance with Holt. Watch it after the jump.

SFU and a little triumph for DoM

A while ago, Six Feet Under announced that bassist Terry Butler and drummer Greg Gall left the band and shortly after that, SFU announced that Kevin Talley, former drummer of Chimaira, among others, joined the band and that they’ve also been working with “a new writing partner” for 4 months already.

If you read the second news post I linked above, you’ll also notice that I speculated about the new writing partner and suggested Jim LaMarca and Rob Arnold of Chimaira. Well, guess what? It’s not 100% confirmed but Terry Butler said the following in an interview:

Six Feet Under is moving on and they’re gonna be a five-piece. I’ve heard through the grapevine that they’re working with [guitarist] Rob [Arnold] from Chimaira — he’s their new writing partner — and Kevin Talley [Daath, Misery Index, Chimaira] is gonna be playing drums.”

Call me Nostradamus, motherfuckers!

Deftones rehash for Record Store Day

As the music industry slowly breathes its last breath, and as people make a movement from quality to convenience, quantity and being general cheapskates, others have tried to celebrate the awesomeness of something or other through an event called Record Store Day, or something… Fuck it, I have no idea what I’m talking about all right, I admit it.

But anyways, a whole bunch of bands will be releasing some exclusive releases especially for some independent retailers for that special day. So if you want some over-priced vinyl, with songs you’ve already had for about a million years, then why not shell out for the Deftones “Covers” LP coming out April 16th (that would be the day of “Record Store Day” duh)? It’ll be totally awesome. Who cares if you already downloaded those tracks, like 5 years ago, for free? Or better yet, bought the B Sides album which already has 70% of those tracks on it? Now is the time to own them on vinyl. Wowzers!1

I’m not even kidding BTW. Every single track on the LP has been heard before. And labels wonder why people have given up on the industry and just download instead. Anyways, the tracklisting can be found above in case you haven’t realized yet.

I’d give my right arm for this tour

Till now, Def Leppard always got by on their own and they never really cared until they met them.

And now it chills them to the bone, how do they tour the U.S. alone? They don’t, cause they’re taking Heart with them.

Oh I crack myself up. Fuck you, it was funny! Hey, do you think they’ll make jokes like “This tour isn’t over until the fat lady sings… Oh shit, here she goes!”

Okay, that was mean.  Tour dates after the jump.
