System of a Metaltown
Oh yawn. This has got to be the worst kept secret in Metal in a long time, but in case you haven’t heard yet, System of a Down have reformed. The official announcement will be made tomorrow, despite the fact everyone already knows they’re back. They’ll be playing Rock am Ring and Rock im Park in Germany, and now they’ve been confirmed for Metaltown festival (click), set to take place June 17-18, 2011 in Gothenburg, Sweden. There’s also heavy rumors of the band playing the UK’s Download festival, who are also making an announcement tomorrow *wink* *wink*.
In all honesty though, this is great news. No more Scars on Broadway or Serj solo trash!
An 8 Minute video on the deaths of Dimebag and Paul Gray
Norwegian TV show “Lydverket” (web site) aired a mini-documentary about the deaths of “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott (PANTERA, SLIPKNOT) and Paul Gray (SLIPKNOT). During the eight-minute segment, which can be viewed below (with English subtitles), Vinnie Paul Abbott (PANTERA, HELLYEAH) and Corey Taylor (SLIPKNOT, STONE SOUR) spoke openly about how they dealt with the losses of their bandmembers and friends, and in Vinnie’s case, his brother.
Usually, I really don’t like to just copy-and-paste news from another source, Blabbermouth in this case, but I don’t have a better description for the video myself, so I just did it now.
I’ve read and seen a lot about the death of Dimebag Darrell but I thought the video was pretty powerful and touching so it’s definitely worth a watch. Do so after the jump.
Nikki Sixx madde itt
Nikki Sixx has finally made something of his life. No, he didn’t manage to make Mötley Crüe less sucky. Speaking of which, I probably should have added umlauts to the post title, thus making the pun twice lamer. His real success is his radio show, Sixx Sense with Nikki Sixx, which is doing pretty well.
In the nine months that Nikki Sixx’s radio show, Sixx Sense with Nikki Sixx , has been on air, the Mötley Crüe bassist has already celebrated many triumphs – such as, welcoming rock heavyweights Ozzy Osbourne, Slash and Dave Grohl as guests of the show – but this one takes the cake: Sixx’s show has now hit the 50th affiliate mark.
When asked why he agreed to appear on his radio show, Ozzy mumbled something about Nikki collecting old debts. And Nikki was seen driving off the show with a fresh bag of heroin in his pocket.
S.O.A.D do R.A.R and R.I.P
This onslaught of initials means something. No, it’s not a Korn song, although if you do read it fast a few times in a row, it does sound like a ‘classic’ Korn breakdown “SOAD DO RAR AND RIP SOAD DO RAR AND RIP!!!”
But it actually means that System of A Down may co-headline the German festivals Rock Am Ring and Rock Im Park next year. Now that Serj‘s album has flopped been released, they can be together again.
I’ve actually been to Rock Im Park and met a lot of drunk and stoned people, not a whole lot of hot chicks though, unless short and chubby goths are your thing, but if you want to get drunk on overpriced beer and get sloppy blowjobs from ugly midget rock chicks then you should definitely go.
Make the jump for more info.
Sonic soap opera
I can’t say I’ve ever received much pleasure from listening to Sonic Syndicate, but I can say reading the latest episode from their soap opera is rather entertaining.
Want a summary? Basically, co-vocalist Richard Sjunnesson, left the band claiming that they have an “inability to play decent music.” Funnily enough though, vocalist, Nathan Biggs, claims this is a lie (anyone surprised?) Biggs also went on to claim that Sjunnesson‘s statement that they allowed their label, Nuclear Blast, to interfere with the musical direction was also a lie.
So basically, some shit was said, then some more shit, but apparently it’s all lies. If you care, which I doubt you do, read more here.
