Anvil drop the bass… player

Glenn Five (ex-Anvil)

Trouble in paradise: long time Anvil bassist, Glenn Five has left the band.

This is what he had to say:

“Playing in Anvil has given me some of the best years of my life. However, after nearly 16 years with the band, the time has come to move on and try new musical endeavors. Although Anvil has been a great band to play in, I have been limited creatively. I have a wide taste in music and I feel that it’s time to broaden my horizons.”

OMG guise, I feel a new rockstar-turned-dubstep-DJ has been born. I can already feel the anvil wub wubs. Will he drop G5-magnitude bass? So many question, so little interest to finish the article on Blabbermouth and see what he’s really up to.

Veil of Maya post a new song online

Veil of Maya have a new album, Eclipse, coming soon, so they’re letting us get a taste of it. A song’s been posted to YouTube (listen to it above) and available to buy through iTunes.

It’s called Vicious Circles, and it starts out alright, but then the clip just cuts right to the end. I’ve noticed this problem occur on YouTube for some clips, they start out alright, then they stop after a few seconds. Maybe I should look into this? Then again, porn tubes are working fine, so it’s not really a biggie…

More bands for Download

Download

Download is trying hard this year, and well, the lineup is already pretty fucking sweet. Besides the three headliners (The Prodigy, Metallica, Black Sabbath), a bunch of other ones have been added to the annual Download festival, namely: Soundgarden, Lamb of God, Machine Head, Tenacious D (if you wanna see Jack Black be funny play music stand there with a guitar), Trivium, Anthrax, Devin Townsend Project, Chase and Status (if you feel like vibing to some raves), Devildriver

Wait, why the fuck am I wasting my fucking fingers when I can just post the photo. Make the jump and check the poster out, and don’t forget, more bands to be announced.

Down EP details

30 minutes ago Down reveiled the tracklisting of their upcoming EP. The songs are apparently in no particular order, because Phil Anselmo couldn’t remember the order.

“Track listing for upcoming EP. Philip says it’s “a very pure doom metal record”.
In no particular order:
Levitation
Witchtripper
The Misfortune Teller
… The Curse Is A Lie
Open Coffins
This Work Is Timeless”

Source

“Very pure Doom Metal,” huh? Phil said so, huh? He could have said anything really, from Death Metal to Black Metal to Epic Transylvanian Power Folk Metal. You just can’t understand the man’s babbling. He’s probably still talking now, 30 minutes later, so they just posted whatever that thought they could make out from what he said. And I use the word “said” very loosely here.

Oh well, I’m looking forward to it either way. I bet they’ll cleverly call it Down IV, so Anselmo doesn’t get confused.

Shh! There’s a secret in Down!

Apparently there’s more to Rex’s departure from Down than what he said. Something ‘personal’ happened between them, but they don’t want to talk about it.

I know, two former Pantera members split and they aren’t trashing each other in the press? What the hell is wrong with these people?

Anyway…

It’s really a two-part thing. Part one is that it really kind of ran its course. Part two is kinda personal. I’ll anser any fucking thing you wanna ask me, but certain things are personal. But I spoke to Rex for 45 minutes at the end of last week, and he’s sounding great. […] He’s still a great, great friend.

Said Kirk “140 characters or less” Windstein. I wonder what Phil had to say. Good thing this is text and not video, cause it would have taken him ages to respond. Anyway…

Rex is a brother of mine, and we made somewhat of a pact that we would not tread on each other in various interviews. So I’m gonna stick with what is the truth: that he had different ideas about what a band should be.

So they’re both keeping it quiet? Then it’s anyone’s guess, really. My guess is: Rex and Phil were playing Snap. Phil obviously took 5 minutes each time to yell “Snap!,” making Rex the winner all the time. Phil got annoyed, shit hit the fan.

When asked for a comment, Phil said “Mmm….” and then took 10 minutes to finish the sentence.
