Monster Magnet are still powertripping
I think it’s safe to say that most of us have forgot about New Jersey rockers Monster Magnet. Last I remember, they had success in the mid 90s and their “Power Trip” record went gold.
Well, they have a new album coming out on Oct 29th. “Mastermind” is the title and they also have made the album available for streaming. Will this album go gold? Of course not, they would be lucky to sell 30,000, but check the album out anyway if you like hard rock.

New "Dead Kennedys"
Pictured above is the real band. This news article is about the tribute band, who nobody cares about enough to even take a picture of.
In my book, Dead Kennedys have been dead ever since Jello quit. But the other guys from the band seem to disagree. Probably because the bills don’t pay themselves, and using old fame is easier than doing stuff on your own. Anyway, it seems that the band (call it as you wish) recently played two new songs for the first time, called You’re Such A Fake (what a hilarious title coming from them) and Area 51. They also played a reworked version of MTV Get Off The Air, called MP3 Get Off The Web, which is about “people downloading MP3s and how much they suck for doing it.”. And that is what really pissed me off. Why? Because of this:
Not involving myself and whether I agree with downloading mp3’s or not, can this excuse of a band be any further away from what they used to stand for? I don’t think so. Videos after the jump, if you’re one of the very few people who care about Dead Dead Kennedys.
Some interviews
Lars Ulrich (pictured above) got interviewed by some very annoying guy in Australia. I don’t know if all Australians talk and look like that, but my God I felt like headbutting my monitor. Watch it after the jump.
Steve Flynn of Atheist also got interviewed. He talks about the band’s early days and whatnot, I didn’t really read it but maybe you have a better attention span so click here for it.
Wednesday 13 of Murderdolls (huh?) got interviewed, too. I didn’t know you could name yourself after a date. In that case my name is September 11, not because of the horrible terrorist attacks, but because I lost my virginity then. Sadly, September of 2010, not 2001, but hey, at least I’m a man now. Video also after the jump.
Clint Lowery of Sevendust also has an interview… You’ll find it after the jump, and you gotta give it to Clint, he’s keeping it real, he doesn’t need fancy schmancy pro interviews like Lars. He did a webchat or something cause everything looks horrible, technical wise. That’s what my mom said about my first sextape by the way, but since I’ve gone HD she became a fan.
Jason Bonham wants an identity
Jason Bonham wants his own identity…. He says while promoting his Led Zeppelin tribute band.
PioneerPress.com recently conducted an interview with drummer Jason Bonham. When asked about living with his father’s legacy, Jason responded that:
“It is hard to have your own identity when you dad is John Bonham of Led Zeppelin, but I accept and love the fact of who my dad is. I understand that my dad is the greatest, I just try to play to the best of my ability.”
Yes, I imagine it must be hard trying to gain your own identity Jason, but I would probably take that claim more seriously if it were coming from an interview that isn’t about promoting your Led Zeppelin tribute band… I can’t imagine playing with Led Zeppelin, and forming your own tribute band, Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Experience, really helps you. Not to mention always using your dad’s legacy to sell yourself… Just saying.
Anvil do jazz
Anvil, the band better known for the documentary about them rather then their music, has started working on their new album. Here’s what the drummer, Robb Reiner had to say about the direction they’re taking:
“It’s going to be the best album we’ve ever done. We’ve invented a new genre; we’ve invented metal-jazz . . . We’ve pioneered something that I believe is going to be revolutionary. I’m a jazz drummer: the world knows that I just happen to be in a metal band. And Lips [guitarist/vocalist Steve Kudlow] listens to a lot of old-time swing jazz these days.” Lips added, “I’ve been getting into Benny Goodman and Gene Krupa, really fast swing. It’s really similar to speed metal, it’s just that it’s done with horns.” Reiner continued, “We play this stuff live right now, and it blows people away beyond anything I’ve ever seen. We’ve innocently created something that’s never been done before.”
I thought a bunch of bands already combined elements of jazz in their music, but I guess I was wrong. We’ll hear their take on it once the album’s out. Excited? No? Have no idea who Anvil are? Didn’t think so. I do recommend watching their documentary, it’s called Anvil! The Story of Anvil.
