Gene Simmons is after your ass

Gene Simmons

Heads up: if you’re reading this, and next to the browser you have a bit-torrent app open, close it. Delete the files. Format the hard drive. Because you know what? Gene Simmons is after your pirate ass.

Here’s what the guy with the big mouth and long tongue has to say about file sharing:

“Make sure your brand is protected. Make sure there are no incursions. Be litigious. Sue everybody. Take their homes, their cars. Don’t let anybody cross that line. The music industry was asleep at the wheel and didn’t have the balls to sue every fresh-faced, freckle-faced college kid who downloaded material. And so now we’re left with hundreds of thousands of people without jobs. There’s no industry.”

Are we going to discuss this? No, it’s been discussed to death, and unlike Kiss who won’t call it quits, we don’t feel like beating a dead horse. Are we going to crack jokes about how anything Kiss has released in the past three decades is barely worth $15, let alone someone’s home? We could… Are we going to point out that it’s hypocritical from a guy whose band makes half a million dollars per show to act like he’s one of the struggling artists? Yes, we are. Gene, your prime has passed decades ago, and you are still fortunate enough to make money, so please, leave the bitching to those freckle-faced college kids who play in bands and dream of being rockstars.

He also tried to come up with some analogy on file sharing and farmers. Read it after the jump, it’s quite up there with Aesop’s fables.

Weezer begged to break up

Frustrated fans of alternative rock group, Weezer, have offered the band $10 million, urging them to ‘take our money and disappear’.

Why? Because apparently fans haven’t been happy with the band’s newest releases. Personally, I was disappointed the moment someone told me Weezer were good and I checked them out to find that, they are not. But hey, that’s me.

Drummer, Patrick Wilson responded to the fundraising campaign, saying via his Twitter account that ‘if they can make it [$]20[million], we’ll do the ‘deluxe break-up’. So far, the campaign has $9,999,689 to go, so I think you might be waiting a while for that 20 million Patrick.

In my opinion, this is just stupid. What a waste of cash and time. Don’t want to hear new Weezer music? Then don’t. No one’s making you. That said, I can only hope someone takes up a similar campaign for Linkin Park. That would be money put to better use.

No Pantera Reunion

Former Pantera, current Down, bassist Rex Brown recently did an interview with Sonic Excess.

The most interesting part in said interview was when the interviewer asked Rex what his thoughts were on a Pantera reunion and Brown said:

“I just don’t see it happening. It would be great in one factor, that we would play with Vinnie again and that it would be all sorted out. But, I think it would be… I just don’t think it would be right without Dime. It was only the four of us, and I don’t know anybody that can play like him.”

Alter Bridge stream new album

I know what you’re thinking. You’re thinking “what will Alter Bridge‘s new album sound like? Will it be any good?”. Well fear not, because the band have made their entire album, AB III (named after Korn’s new album I presume), available for streaming. No longer will you have to waste your time searching for torrents, downloading the album, deleting the album… because it’s now available at the click of a play button. Amazing right?

If you can’t be bothered to listen to the album right now, don’t worry, because the band have taken the time to tell you what it sounds like. Apparently it’s the “darkest” record yet, it’s the best, it’s the heaviest, it’s the most diverse and musically accomplished. Actually I’m not sure if they said all of those things, but that’s normally what bands say about every album they release.

Cradle of Filth can land you in jail

So apparently an Australian Cradle of Filth fan is facing quite a hefty sentence… Now, I don’t mind a bit of music justice, but apparently this isn’t because of an Australian “decent music taste” law at all. It was all over a this shirt… Say what?

“Alexsei Vladmir Nikola was due to appear in court Thursday morning (October 7) on public nuisance charges after Brisbane police officers allegedly saw him wearing a shirt featuring the words “Jesus Is A Cunt” in large letters and shows a picture of a semi-naked, masturbating nun.

Public nuisance charges? What the hell? Granted, I do think the shirt is in bad taste, I mean, why is the nun semi-naked? Shouldn’t she be fully naked while masturbating? That’s just common sense.  Also, I am all for arresting people with awful taste in music, but not over a stupid Jesus shirt. Besides, God has to have a sense of humor, otherwise Cradle of Filth wouldn’t exist in the first place. Logic, dear Christians, logic!

Read full article here. And since we’re on the subject, this band released a new song which you can listen to here.
