I predict a riot
Props to Bring Me The Horizon. Words I never thought I would say, despite jokes about their music starting riots, the band handled things pretty well.
Vocalist Oli Sykes was assaulted on stage during the band’s headlining performance last night (Monday, October 3) at In The Venue in Salt Lake City, Utah. Certain members of the crowd began bottling the band, which prompted Sykes to bottle the people in question back following a warning “if you don’t like our band, then get the fuck out”. During this alteration, several “fans” jumped the stage and assaulted the band. It makes for pretty hilarious viewing, so I definitely advise watching the video above.
Honestly though… You’d expect myself, a writer for Dose of Metal (like many of the commenters at Blabbermouth), to either make wise cracks or support the morons in question, but I have full support for the band. Personally, I find those that heckle or bottle bands to be fucking self-riotous, ignorant human beings. These particular people in question are particularly stupid, however, as they paid to see Bring Me The Horizon at a headlining show. Why would they even do that, if they hate the band so much? Even if it’s just to see a supporting band they like, Oli is right: “don’t like the music, then fuck off”.
Update: Upon reading Oli Sykes blog (why I did that, God only knows), it would appear that Oli claims he ‘didn’t receive so much as a scratch’ and yada-yada, read it for yourself if you care.
A few words about Evile’s new album
What is the point of an album review? For me personally, I want to know if I am going to like the album being reviewed, if I shell out my hard earned filthy lucre and buy it, but obviously the reviewer doesn’t know me, so how should this feat be achieved? And there’s the rub, it’s not an easy thing to accomplish.
Some reviewers compare the album being reviewed to other releases in the band’s back catalog, but unless you’re intimate with the band’s work, this approach is useless (and what if it’s a debut album ?). Plus, bands evolve, the fact that this new record does/doesn’t sound like one they released 10 years ago is no indication that I will, or won’t, like it in the here and now.
Take Five Serpent’s Teeth by Evile. Apparently it’s their third album, but it’s the first music I’ve heard by this band. I’ve read elsewhere that Evile play thrash, but if they do, they don’t play it on this album — it’s very mid-paced metal, overall, with just a hint of Flavor-of-Thrash thrown in for good measure. Maybe this is Nu-Thrash? The production is nice and the lead work is excellent, but a tad too sparse for these ears.
If I play this album enough, I may grow to like it more (I’ve only listend to it for about for times), but if I don’t, it’s the singer’s fault. If you’re going to sing, then you have to be able to do it properly. Unfortunately Matt Drake can’t, and to my ears, it really lets the music down. In my mind’s ear, I have tried to imagine someone like Barney Greenway providing the vocals instead, and it sounds much better!
If this was a proper review, I’d give it three skulls.

Prizes have been won, brix have been shat
It’s Sunday, October 2nd, and this means all three of our giveaways are now over.
Giveaway 1 | Giveaway 2 | Giveaway 3
The bad news: If you entered but didn’t receive an email saying you’ve won, it means you didn’t win.
The good news: We’ll have a fourth giveaway tomorrow, and we’ll have 5 prizes for you, which means they will rock your faces off!
You’d think we’d stop sending you shit after three entire contests, but we’re Dose of Metal, that means we’re awesome, and we’ve got shit to give away…
Anyway, thanks for reading this site and entering the contests, we’ve had entries from all over the world, and the lucky winners are all from different countries, which makes it kind of cool, since contests are usually pretty restrictive and only cover North America and Europe.
So yeah, hope you’ve had a great weekend, and feel free to enter the contest tomorrow, doesn’t matter if you entered the previous contests or not, or if you won. Anyone and everyone can win stuff at Dose of Metal. Cause we be from the streets, yo!
Have a nice day.
Boredom + lack of news =
So with all the Lulu talk over the last few weeks (it’s going to suck, I don’t really care, I won’t listen to it), I figured ‘why not listen to some music from Metallica that doesn’t suck donkey penis?’
Thus, I am posting their cover of ‘Whiskey in the Jar’ (made well known by Thin Lizzy). Yes, it isn’t Metal, and yes, it’s a cover, but it’s a damn good one. Plus it has lesbians in the video, and any video with lesbians is good in my books.
Wake me up when December ends
In an alternate universe, millions and millions of Korn fans are crying over the latest news that Korn‘s new album The Path To Totality has been pushed back to a December release date. For the rest of us stuck in reality, we can all exhale and rejoice that we have an extra month before we have to succumb to crappy new experimental nu-metal. Yuck!
The Path To Totality sees Korn experimenting with their so called music and adding producers from dubstep to the mix, for a collaboration album. Big names such as Skrillex, Datsik, and Excision will be some of the producers Korn has nabbed for their upcoming release, although I’m sure the millions and millions would agree that the music would sound better without Korn disgracing it with their 1990’s nu-metal nonsense.
