Dave appreciation rant
Hiya folks,
I’ve been on quite a break now, due to all but good reasons, and I felt I should chime in. The subject? Good ol’ Dave. No. Not the Grohl one. The other one. Yeah, that’s right, ginger Dave.
I’m perfectly aware that Alex has posted news bits about Dave’s health. Yeah, he’s recovering after a neck surgery that involved three vertebral discs (read the details on Blabbermouth. Or, better still, don’t, because that’s already old news). The point is that the man himself blamed his injury on headbanging. Now, remember that Dave has just turned 50 recently. Put “50” and “headbanging” in the same sentence and… you get something that Papa Het has forgotten to do for a good 23 years. Metal, that is.
(Pictured above: Metal. Not by numbers)
If you didn’t hear yet the measly alternative that Dave counters Lulu with, hit the jump, but be prepared for a non-intellectual borefest that cannot hold a candle to the deep-thinking behemoth that “The View” is.
Want to hear some Judas Priest songs you’ve definitely heard before?
You’re lucky then, because AOL is streaming their best of collection “The Chosen Few” at this location. What makes this “special” is that unlike the usual procedure when the band’s staff chooses the songs to go on CD, this time it was the staff of around 15 other bands and musicians that did so, a song each. I smell a PR stunt.
I guess it’s kind of nice. I don’t know. I feel inclined to make fun of these marketing gimmicks, but it’s Judas Priest, so how lame can it be? Make the jump to find out who besides the likes of Corey Taylor and Jonathan Davis also had a say in choosing the songs for this album.
Interview: Anders Colsefni (Painface, ex-Slipknot)
After reading a lot about Slipknot’s Iowa lately — and many people calling it their favorite Slipknot release — I had to think about which one actually my favorite release is. If I had to choose from the Corey Taylor era, I’d definitely go with Iowa. But Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat. is without a shadow of a doubt my favorite release of their entire catalogue.
This album was the only record Anders Colsefni (real name: Andrew Rouw, and it’s Colsefni – not Colsefini) released with the band. In 1996 the band intended MFKR to be their debut album. But when they signed with Roadrunner Records, and Colsefni had left the band, Slipknot from then on referred to it as a full-length demo.
To me it doesn’t really matter if it’s a demo or their debut album, MFKR is my favorite Slipknot record. With that being said, I tried to keep my eyes and ears open for anything Colsefni did after Slipknot. I enjoyed the album he did with Painface, called Fleshcraft, in 2000. And I tried to follow his work with Vice Grip Throttle but admittedly struggled to stay up-to-date with their output.
Not to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Iowa, but to celebrate the 15th anniversary of Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat. (it was released in October of 1996) I reached out to Anders Colsefni and talked to him about Slipknot, Paul Gray’s passing, Painface and more. You can find the interview after the jump.
Something is rotten in the state of Belgium
I have no idea if this is old news, but I just stumbled on this clip, and wow, I learned something new today: Belgium has a scene! Suicide Silence frontman invited a bunch of kids to join him on stage at a recent show in Antwerp and boy did they do it. Let’s play a game: spot the most scene kid on there! My personal favorite is the kid in white t-shirt which comes in at about 0:35 in the video, and does a crab-seizure move, fucking hardcore.
Kidding aside, at least they had fun, and that’s what’s most important. Think about the little ones. Love, DoM.
More Lulu up your ass
Did you feel like I felt upon hearing ‘The View’ from Metallica & Lou Reed love-child album? Did you feel the cringe-worthy sadness when you realized that this piece of crap was the single of the new Metallica album? And did you laugh at the countless “I am the table” memes that have smothered the internet ever since its release?
Well, if you hated that, then you will most likely hate the rest of this post. Lou Reed himself has posted a few of the lyrics, that we will be laughing at treated to on the new album. Be warned, though: These lyrics are awful, simply awful. When I heard ‘The View,’ I honestly tried to look at its good points (considering it is a Metallica release, after all), but I simply could not defend that crap!
Anyway, if you want to read some of the new lyrics for the song “Pumping Blood”, including such classic lines as “Waggle my ass like a dark prostitute,” “Oh, ah, ah, ah Jack I beseech you,” and “Like a colored mans dick,” make if the jump. If not, continue watching that porn in the second tab. I got you.
