Weekly Dose of Metal: Katatonia

Katatonia, the Swedish metallers (not the crappy Welsh band from the 90s), really are a cheery bunch, singing songs about happiness, jumping for joy and singing praises in the name of being a tip top happy cunt.

No, in seriousness, the band are so depressing that they make Staind look like those annoying children’s entertainers that won’t stop smiling no matter how much shit you shout/throw at them. Unlike Staind, however, Katatonia are a damn good band and aren’t a bunch of musically challenged men, writing high school level poetry about how “crap” life is.

Originally, the band began composing more Death/Doom style music, but eventually the band grew into a more straight rock act incorporating clean singing. You can check out ‘In Death, A Song’ taken from 1999’s Tonight’s Decision below.

Loureedtallica website goes live

Lou Reed and Metallica

We’ve covered Metallica‘s “super secret” project that turned out to be a collaboration with Lou Reed before, and now we’re doing it again. Why? Because they have a website out.

The website is so amazing, that if you take a moment to imagine the words LOU REED AND METALLICA and COMING SOON next to the photo above, there’s not a single reason to visit it, because that’s all there’s to it at the moment. If you still for some reason want to see it for yourself, head over to loureedmetallica.com!

Interview: Jason Decay (Cauldron)

Jason Decay (Cauldron)

I was recently at a Goat Horn show and crossed paths with their main man Jason Decay. Jason also happens to be the bassist and vocalist for one of my favorite up and coming bands: Cauldron.

Cauldron are a heavy metal band hailing from Toronto. They are signed to Earache Records and have two studio albums released: Chained to the Nite and Burning Fortune.

Back to Jason Decay, he was nice enough for a little Q & A, so I suggest you make the jump for see what was discussed!

Steel Panther FOR TEH PARTEE

I wonder if FTP (for the party) is a real acronym or did I just blow everyone’s mind again… Nevermind. What you see above is Steel Panther, a “hair metal revival” band performing with Sebastian Bach (ex-Skidrow) and singer Cee-Lo Green at a show in Holywood last night.

As easy as it is to make fun of them — I won’t. I mean, look at the clip. They’re obviously having fun, and they obviously have more girls on stage than I’ve ever been able to make verbal contact with. All I have is this room, a computer and hair loss issues. Goddammit.

You can find more videos from the performance here.

I fancy a suckfest

A suckfest sounds like my kind of evening. Just me (well ok and maybe a few other guys), 10 chicks lined up. It would be my dreams come true.

So imagine my disappointment when I discover that “suckfest” isn’t what I thought it was.

MetalSucks, in conjunction with Live Nation, has announced The Metal Suckfest. The festival will take place at New York City’s Gramercy Theater and will feature 20 bands over the course of two days, November 4 and November 5. Municipal Waste will headline the first night, while Cynic will close the festival the following evening. The remaining acts will be revealed soon.

Municipal Waste are cool, but I still say that’s blatant false advertisement dammit. Oh well, back to porn.
