Deftones guitarist also has a side project!
We’ve covered Sol Invicto before, when they released a remix of Deftones‘ Diamond Eyes (it was for charity, so we’ll forgive them). Hot on the heels of Chino Moreno’s recently released Crosses (if you expect me to copy paste those ASCII crosses, you can suck my pretty penis), another EP by another Deftones member sees the light on this day.
In case you’re slow, Sol Invicto is a side project by another member of the Deftones, and it’s none other than Stephen Carpenter, the dude with the most horror name ever. You know, the fat one. The really fat one. You can download the EP for free right here, and it’s supposed to be some experimental drum and bass shit.
The band also announced they’ll release a few more EPs in the following months, so be ready for a few more posts which aren’t really related to this website and you could have most likely lived without.
Aliases debut released today
Aliases, the SiKth-esque progressive tech metallers, have released their debut album/EP, Safe From Reality, today via Basick Records.
Are you a cheap skate? Well that’s ok, you don’t even need to download a torrent and risk having swat teams blasting their way into your house within 10 minutes to arrest you on grounds of copyright infringement. Basick Records have been nice enough to stream the entire album at this location, and it’s completely legal.
Like the album? Then make sure you buy a copy and support the band and label, it’s only £6.99.
Interview with Dave McClain
Dave McClain, drummer of Machine Head, was recently interviewed by Arthur Kade.
You can view a video of the interview above. In it, I expect Dave discusses the new album, how heavy it is, how it’s the strongest album by the band yet, or it might just be about what Dave had for dinner. I have no idea, I was too busy ‘multi-tasking’ by watching Porn in a different tab.
Unto the Locust, the new album, will be released September 26/27 via Roadrunner Records.
The Weekly Playlist: Better the devil you know
This week the UK has suffered some of the worst riots in recent history. Opportunist thuggery, or the lashing out of a group of people, excluded from society as a result of political and societal elitism. After all, it was Thatcher that taught us that society does not exist. Now is the time people turn to answers for why this happened, and it’s not something I can honestly condemn. Dismissing the last days as mindless violence is futile and will never get us to the root of the problem. Is it a lack of God in today’s Britain (fuck off), a breakdown of family unity, or the reaction to what is essentially a continuous swap between two parties that are nothing but different shades of shit, both of which support the same agenda?
I can’t pretend I have the answers, but what I do have is some honest reviews of some new music. So if you are sick of hearing about riots, sick of hearing from quasi-intelligent individuals discussing the alleged problems and answers to the world’s problems, why don’t we unite in listening to some kick ass Metal? And if that isn’t enough, we can also mock the shit out of some crappy ass music too.
Nick Oliveri will not rejoin QOTSA
I’m assuming he won’t, because he faces up to 15 years in prison for his little stunt, so that’s more than the time he’s spent being in that band. Yes, sensationalist title, slightly misleading. Blow me.
“Former Queens of the Stone Age bassist Nick Oliveri has been charged with four felonies after a tense standoff with a S.W.A.T. team in L.A. last month — and now faces up to 15 years in prison.
After a fight with his girlfriend escalated into a four-hour standoff with police. Oliveri was booked on felony domestic violence — and after police searched his home, they found a fully-loaded rifle. But that’s not all they found — according to the charging docs, police also found cocaine and methamphetamines.
Oliveri is charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance with a firearm, 2 counts of possession of a controlled substance, and one misdemeanor count of resisting, obstructing or delaying a peace officer. If convicted on all counts, the 39-year-old faces a max of 15 years in prison.“

That sucks, I always liked Nick and I really wanted him back in QOTSA. Then again, when you pull a stunt that sounds straight out of a 90s buddy cop film, what would you expect?
Let’s hope he doesn’t get the maximum sentence. Can someone get him Lindsay Lohan’s attorney?
