Tom Morello comments on UK riots

You just knew someone in Rage Against The Machine would comment on the UK riots. Here we go, folks. Prepare to witness yet another world-famous musician pretending to understand and relate to poor people.

When people have the opportunity to look forward to a bright future with educational opportunities, safety, security and a positive economic outlook they do not take to the streets and riot. When people are standing at the lip of the abyss, looking into a future of poverty, deprivation and crime, that is when the powder-keg is set to be lit.

Very poetic, only these rioters have no purpose or goals, they just vandalize and loot. They’re destroying their own cities and stealing from mom and pop stores, how is that helping their cause? They’re basically attacking themselves.

In the midst of these austerity measures you know that the UK’s billionaires are not turning their yachts in but the people in communities across the UK find themselves living in desperate economic conditions with no future to look forward to. On the one hand I’m concerned for safety but at the same time I understand.

You’re selling out arenas all over the globe, are you turning in your profits? Or does this not apply to you, just the ‘really rich’ people?

Something’s got to give and I would not exempt what’s happening in the UK from the rest of the world. The circumstances are different in each place but the overarching desire of humanity to stand against tyranny and want a decent life for themselves and their family in universal.

Again, this would all be very poetic if these people would not be burning cars, houses and stores that belong to people just like them. There’s a viral video of some people stealing from an injured kid. These people are not standing against tyranny, they ARE the tyranny. How can you justify throwing a Molotov cocktail into a store? They’re not doing anything but creating more problems for people, thus making life even harder for people who ‘don’t own yachts.’ When you burn down a Starbucks store, it’s not the CEOs that will suffer, but the poor fucks working the counter who will have no job afterwards.

I can understand protesting in front of the government or the big companies, but what these people are doing is simply chaotic destruction, and half of them are just jumping on the bandwagon. They have absolutely no reason, other than “Let’s smash some windows and steal some Blu-Rays!!!”

I always thought Tom Morello was a smart guy, but if he truly doesn’t see the hypocrisy in these riots, then maybe I was wrong about him.

Staind fans are lucky

Dear all seven of Staind’s existing fans,

You guys are pretty damn lucky. Ok, so your taste in music is questionable, but that aside, you’ll all be pleased to hear the band’s upcoming self-titled “return to roots” (aka regressing) album, will be available in a special edition CD/DVD digipack.

So if you feel like paying double the price for the same shitty album, you’ll no doubt be rejoicing right now. Blabbermouth have more details. I’m too busy listening to real music to give a crap.

In other news, Dose of Metal writer, Mark, was arrested earlier today in UK riots for beating a dead horse.

Dave Mustaine wants to form another Metallica

It’s been my a dream of mine to see Dave join Metallica on stage, and I kinda lived that dream when I attended the Big Four Sofia show and they all played ‘Am I Evil’ together for the first time. Dave seems to want to take that a notch further:

I’ve talked to Lars and James about me and David [Ellefson] doing a supergroup record with Lars and James. Well, James never said ‘no,’ but it’s still kind of out there in the air. I’m gonna keep hammering on him. It’s on my bucket list.

Really? That sounds to me like Metallica all over again. Now, a few thoughts on the matter:

1. Supergroups never work properly. The chemistry of the musicians is way more important than the individual talent or fame, so putting the best musicians in a room together will not guarantee success. The whole concept is flawed to begin with. The only thing separating this would-be supergroup from others is the fact that they did play together before, but it’s still a shot in the dark.

2. There’s a reason this didn’t work the first time. Three big egos clashing. They have quite the history, would they really be compatible now, with all the extra baggage?

3. Wouldn’t it be a bit hypocritical if James would start a side project after forcing Jason not to make one himself?

Don’t get me wrong, I’d pay good money to see this ‘group’ live, but something about the whole process seems like it will just fail, mostly on a personal level, but probably on a professional one as well. I’ll be the first to listen to their songs if they do pull it together though.

Smoke on Enter November

Probably the dumbest news title yet, but “Smoke On The Water,” “Enter Sandman” and “November Rain,” in that order, were voted as the top 3 songs of all time by Swedish radio listeners.

The ‘Top 666 Songs of All Time’ was compiled by Sweden’s Rockklassiker 106.7 station. That’s right, the entries were voted online, so you know the top is bogus since most people are dumb and have shitty tastes in music.
Fourth after GNR‘s classic is AC/DC‘s even more classic “Back In Black,” followed by Metallica‘s “Nothing Else Matters.”
Don’t get me wrong, I love all five of those songs, but are they really the top songs of all time? Not really, some of them are not even the bands’ best songs.

But hey, again, this was voted online, so let’s not give it more credit than we should. Full top after the jump.

Tuesday Trivia: Anarchy in the UK (and guns in the US of A)

In Flames

Here at Dose of Metal we are not only musical. We are also socially aware. That’s why we’re devoting this week’s Tuesday Trivia to the recent UK rioting.

It’s a horrible thing that’s happening there right now. The youth of the country is facing so many problems, it was evident at one point riots would errupt.

Here’s a breakdown of the reasons for the recent protests:

  • Some people apparently couldn’t install 50+ Mb internet in their suburban London districts. Shameful.
  • Playstation Network was down for over a month. The rage built up, in the meantime kids started live action streetfighting.
  • Local scene shop ran out  of hairdryers. All the scene kids shaved their heads in protest and turned skinhead over night.
  • New Limp Bizkit album made a divide between the metal and rap crews. Shootouts were inevitable.
  • People started getting aggravated due to long queues for iPad 2 and white iPhone 4.

In case you didn’t figure it out, I’m being fucking sarcastic. This is the most shameful shit Britain’s seen in ages, downright looting, and it’s hurting legitimacy of, you know, real protests in the real world, with real problems.

What does this have to do with metal? Well, you know the drill. Jumpdafuckup.
