Matt Heafy talks Lady Gaga

Being the frontman of a band as a mediocre and overhyped as Trivium, it comes with  no surprise to learn that Matt Heafy has taken great inspiration from Lady Gaga for the new album, In Waves.

Trivium sinking lower into the depths of Pop? No surprises here.

Ok, admittedly I’ve completely twisted his words and the new album will probably be as ‘Metal’ as any of their other albums. Check out the full interview with Amy Harris here if you’re idea of a fun night is spending the evening knitting with your grandma.

P.S. That’s not Matt Heafy above, I just don’t want his name tarnishing my search history, getting in the way of all my porn searches.

Metal Kino: Black Metal – A Documentary

In the last edition of Metal Kino, I’ve gone to great lenghts to explain my “morbid” interest in the Black Metal genre and the happenings around this scene. So there is no need to explain it again for this edition. If you really are interested, click the link above to read my intro to the last edition. Also, I would like to point out that I’ve made a mistake last time. The first video I’ve posted actually wasn’t taken from the documentary that I wrote about but from Metal: A Headbanger’s Journey. Shit happens. Now you know.

But anyhow, this edition, again, is all about Black Metal. Black Metal – A Documentary features interviews with members of Venom, Gorgoroth, Mortiis, Dark Funeral, Enslaved and more. For a full list, check out the tags.

Now make the jump to watch the 13-part documentary Black Metal – A Documentary.

Weekly Dose of Metal: Sybreed

And now it’s time for the weekly dose of Metal, as opposed to the random dose of Metal or even “today’s” dose of Metal. Confused? Remind me of my sexuality.

This week’s dose comes from a Swiss Industrial band, Sybreed. The band have been dubbed as “death wave”, a portmanteau of Death Metal and New Wave. And when I say they’ve been “dubbed”, I mean that’s just what Wikipedia informed me.

You can check out Sybreed‘s ‘A.E.O.N.’ taken from 2009’s The Pulse of Awakening below.

Little Drummer Boy

So, before I get into this rant, I want to let you know that I don’t know much about drumming from a technical perspective. I don’t play drums, either. I’m just a regular music listener who enjoys some good — sometimes fast, sometimes heavy — drumming. I’m not one of those guys who searches on YouTube for guitar covers of my favorite songs, I search for drum covers of those songs. I just enjoy watching and listening to drummers.

Especially within the last decade, or so, drumming within Heavy Metal and its sub-genres became more of a focal point than ever before. I’m sure Thrash Metal drummers, i.e. Charlie Benante and Dave Lombardo, had a lot to do with that which then further evolved in the Death Metal genre.

So, I just thought why not take a minute and share some of my favorite drum covers or drums-only videos with my devoted DoM audience. After the jump you will find videos of Gene Hoglan and covers of songs originally played by Dave Lombardo, Joey Jordison, and Nyan Cat.

Phil Demmel reviews the new Machine Head album

Machine Head have a new album, Unto the Locust, coming out in September and Phil Demmel, who totally isn’t biased (not like he’s actually in Machine Head or anything), was nice enough to give a track-by-track review of the new album.

The verdict? That it’s the most epic, most heavy and strongest Machine Head album yet, of course. At least that was my interpretation, not that I’m cynical at all.

I don’t have the time nor effort to write some of Phil’s descriptions here (and yes I’ve heard of ‘copy and paste’), so why not head over to Blabbermouth and check it out for yourself?
