Back when they were still good: Mudvayne

I know people will argue Mudvayne were never really good, and the make up in the video above won’t help my cause, but I stand behind my point, which is: L.D. 50 was actually a pretty good album, and this band had potential.

Not saying that they had potential to be an overall amazing band, but they had potential to be a solid nu metal version of Tool. Too bad they instead chose to become a shitty nu metal version of Nickelback.

The video above is a live performance of “Prod,” and I believe it was the first video I ever saw by these guys.

Anvil drop the bass… player

Glenn Five (ex-Anvil)

Trouble in paradise: long time Anvil bassist, Glenn Five has left the band.

This is what he had to say:

“Playing in Anvil has given me some of the best years of my life. However, after nearly 16 years with the band, the time has come to move on and try new musical endeavors. Although Anvil has been a great band to play in, I have been limited creatively. I have a wide taste in music and I feel that it’s time to broaden my horizons.”

OMG guise, I feel a new rockstar-turned-dubstep-DJ has been born. I can already feel the anvil wub wubs. Will he drop G5-magnitude bass? So many question, so little interest to finish the article on Blabbermouth and see what he’s really up to.

Veil of Maya post a new song online

Veil of Maya have a new album, Eclipse, coming soon, so they’re letting us get a taste of it. A song’s been posted to YouTube (listen to it above) and available to buy through iTunes.

It’s called Vicious Circles, and it starts out alright, but then the clip just cuts right to the end. I’ve noticed this problem occur on YouTube for some clips, they start out alright, then they stop after a few seconds. Maybe I should look into this? Then again, porn tubes are working fine, so it’s not really a biggie…

More bands for Download

Download

Download is trying hard this year, and well, the lineup is already pretty fucking sweet. Besides the three headliners (The Prodigy, Metallica, Black Sabbath), a bunch of other ones have been added to the annual Download festival, namely: Soundgarden, Lamb of God, Machine Head, Tenacious D (if you wanna see Jack Black be funny play music stand there with a guitar), Trivium, Anthrax, Devin Townsend Project, Chase and Status (if you feel like vibing to some raves), Devildriver

Wait, why the fuck am I wasting my fucking fingers when I can just post the photo. Make the jump and check the poster out, and don’t forget, more bands to be announced.

Interview: Ben Whitfield (Colonel Blast, Condate Records)

An interview with Colonel Blast on Dose of Metal? What the hell is going on? Confused much? Not sure what I’m talking about? Well, let me give you a little background information before we get started.

In May of 2011, I was contacted by Condate Records’ PR agency. They sent me the Split Roast album, which included songs by Colonel Blast, Cancerous Womb, Diascorium, Magpyes and Dyscaphia. I reviewed said album a couple of days later.

I was very impressed with Colonel Blast’s contributions to the split, so I tried to get their debut album next to review it aswell. I was promised to get the album soon afterwards, but in the end nobody gave it to me, even though I was in contact with people from the PR agency, Condate Records and even the band. I decided to just buy the album instead and then write about it, which I did in July.

People from within the band apologized, for not giving me the album, a bit later on Facebook. Shit happens. I offered them an interview, and even contacted two seperate bandmembers about it. I never received an answer. That annoyed me a bit, so I moved on and tried not to talk about them on our site anymore.

Fast forward to Thursday of last week. I found out about This Is Turin, Darryl Jones’ (Colonel Blast vocalist) original band. I liked their songs, but wasn’t sure if I should or shouldn’t post about them. The incidents surrounding Colonel Blast and Condate Records (to which This Is Turin are also signed) were still in the back of my mind. I decided to write about them anyhow, with a detailed backstory as to why I was reluctant to write about them.

I was pretty open in that article, and Ben Whitfield took notice of said post. Ben is the mainman behind Condate Records and Colonel Blast, of which he is also the guitarist. He contacted me and we discussed the incidents of last year and patched things up. We agreed to do an interview and talk about it all openly.

This is where we stand today and, if you go on reading after the jump, everything will be explained. I’m ready to move on and close this chapter, and so is Ben. We discussed these past happenings and then moved on to talk a bit about Condate Records, their roster and finally Colonel Blast. Now click ‘continue reading,’ to… continue reading.
