Ratt and Dave Grohl sitting in a tree…

Two members of Ratt (Stephen Pearcy and Warren DeMartini) recorded a song for yet another band Dave Grohl is in.

We’ll let [Dave] tell you about when he’s ready, kidz. Not for a Ratt record.

Said one of the members… Got it, kidz? Represent.

How many bands has Dave Grohl been in, anyway? It seems like it’s easier to count bands he hasn’t been involved with. Dude sure loves his job, huh?

Meshuggah are releasing a new album

Meshuggah, who are one of the biggest metal bands that currently hail from Sweden, have issued an update on their official website that they’re finally releasing their first new studio album in four years.

After a long time of deep soul searching and intense wrecking of the psyches, the new album is finally done. Soon you will meet this colossus that will pulverize your being. Welcome to the other side on March 27.

Visit website here.

When asked to comment about the direction Meshuggah took on their new material, Jens Kidman said  “our new record is going to sound exactly like the last one, and the last one before that, and the last one before that one and so on.”

Google’s Freddie Mercury tribute isn’t getting enough love

As you know, Google usually finds quirky ways of redesigning its logo on the site based on that day’s event. Well, on Freddie Mercury’s 65th birthday, Google’s team of designers made an amazing tribute to him (watch above) which was just amazing to watch.

According to Blabbermouth, the ‘Doogle,’ as it’s called, barely made the Top 20 Best Google Doodles of 2011. It came in at number 19. WTF?

I know the guys can get very creative with those logos, but that is a 1:30 minute animation celebrating one of the best frontmen in history — and they did him justice. Why is it not in the Top 5 at least?

Anyway, watch it above and shut up! I guess you weren’t talking, only I was… Still, shush.

Thin Lizzy’s legacy will be milked some more

Apparently Thin Lizzy frontman Phil Lynott hid some tapes in the 80s, before his death. Well, it’s not like someone is gonna try to make money off them 25 years later now, is it?

Twenty six years after the Dublin rocker’s death at the age of 36, more of his lost music will be heard by the public for the first time in June. Shortly before he passed away in 1986, Mr Lynott gave 150 tapes to a third party for safekeeping. The cache of up to 700 songs has finally been released to record company Universal Music.

Oh, my bad, it’s 26 years and yes, of course someone will milk the name Thin Lizzy some more.

Don’t get me wrong, more Thin Lizzy for us? That’s not bad news, sure beats waiting for Stone Sour‘s album. Sure beats waiting for Thin Lizzy‘s non-Lynott album, too.

Corey Taylor brings teh lulz again

I love Corey Taylor, the guy is just a goldmine of funny articles, Dose of Metal owes most of its existence to him, because he’s just so easy to mock write about.

So like, I was wondering when 2012 would bring us more funny Corey Taylor interviews, but Corey doesn’t disappoint, he delivered RIGHT AWAY. This time he’s talking about the upcoming Stone Sour album:

Our ultimate goal is a double concept album, which the only way I can describe it is The Wall meets  Dirt on steroids. And I think it’s gonna be fantastic. And if I can pull it off, it’s gonna be the biggest thing we’ve ever done in our career.

See interview after the jump.

Wow, Pink Floyd meets Alice in Chains… ON STEROIDS! This just sounds amazing, probably a masterpiece in the making…

For once I’d like some honesty from musicians, something like “Yeah, this album will be Limp Bizkit‘s Chocolate Starfish meets Linkin Park‘s Meteora” or something. But no, everyone always shoots for bands like Pink Floyd.

Which reminds me, didn’t Fred Durst once describe LB’s upcoming album as Pink Floyd meets Pantera? Maybe it’s just a nu-metal thing, name-drop Pink Floyd and another credible band in your interviews.
