Mike Portnoy trolls the interwebz

A troll guy posted on some Dream Theater forums about a certain DT song (from their latest album) which is strikingly similar to a song from Christian band Red. Sorry, I stopped paying attention the second I heard the word ‘Chrsitian.’

You can judge for yourself here:

Red – Feed The Machine

Dream Theater – Build Me, Break Me Down

Geez, I wonder if Mike Portnoy had anything to say on the matter…

Check out the first song on JP ‘s fav album of the year…. WOW, the arrangement and orchestration sounds awfully familiar!! Surely it must be an intentional “nugget” for the fans… It couldn’t possibly be blatant formula plagiarism now could it…??

I just have to laugh…. : )

Portnoy has class, yo. Very subtle forum diss. Major troll points for this one, Mikey.

Shocking: Bret Michaels is on another reality show

I don’t know about you guys, but I have a feeling Bret Michaels likes to be on TV, especially on reality shows. A stab in the dark, I know, but just this gut feeling I have…

“Poison singer Bret Michaels will appear on the Friday, January 6 episode of the heart-tugging original feel-good series ‘Extreme Makeover: Home Edition’. In the episode, entitled ‘Gibbs Family,’ ‘Extreme Makeover: Home Edition’ travels to Fayette County, Iowa to surprise the Gibbs family.

The episode will air Friday, January 6th, on ABC. It will be between 8 pm and 10 pm ET, in case you want to know the exact time you need to avoid ABC.

Captain Mustaine leads the Megadave ship

According to Megadeth guitarist Chris Broderick, Megadeth is a ship and Dave Mustaine is its captain. Captain obvious.

It’s Dave’s band. He makes the rules, I have no problem with that — anyone that stays committed to one band for this long deserves to make the rules; he’s the captain of the ship. Besides, it was always his vision, Megadeth is his band.

Read full interview here.

While I do agree that Dave is the bandleader and that it’s his baby, a bit of democracy wouldn’t hurt. Not that I know what it’s like to work in Megadeth, but I have a feeling it’s a bit reminiscent of Germany.

By that I mean, of course, that they drink a lot of beer and have a great worth ethic. [insert rolling eyes emoticon here]

Iron Maiden bassist’s daughter releases single and video

You can check out ‘Jekyll & Hyde’, the first video from Six Hour Sundown, the UK band featuring Lauren Harris — daughter of legendary Iron Maiden bassist Steve Harris — above.

According to a press release, Six Hour Sundown “blurs the boundaries of musical genres with edgy modern rock riffs, driven by a solid rhythm section and topped off by a contemporary melody lines, delivered by a vocalist who puts her heart on the line with every performance.”

So in other words, they’re a Pop band and they suck. Oh well.

For more on the band, check out Blabbermouth.

Kirk told Dave to play all the solos

When Dave played with Metallica a few nights ago, he was a bit confused as to what versions of the songs he should have played. Luckily Kirk stepped in and saved the day:

I was trying to figure out, Do I learn the demo versions of the songs or the Kill ‘Em All versions of the songs? Well, I found out it was the Kill ‘Em All versions. OK, do I learn my solos from the demos, or Kirk’s solos? What solos should I play? Then, when I got there, Kirk said, ‘You know, why don’t you play all the solos?’ And I was like, ‘Oooh!’ [laughs] I had to quickly go through my bag of tricks.

Read full interview here.

They should have done a ‘Four Horsemen vs. Mechanix’ performance. Yup.
