Friday Top 10: Best album covers
It’s Friday and therefore it’s time for another Top 10 list. We’ve done worst album covers in November and most brutal album covers last week, but somehow we’ve never done best album covers. So, I guess it’s about fucking time.
Before we dive right into it, I want to let you know that, despite labeling it one of my favorite album artworks, I won’t include Slayer’s ‘Christ Illusion’ for the simple reason that I want a fresh Top 10.
Feel free to make the jump now… or die trying!
Metal goes acoustic: Six is six too many
So welcome to the sixth edition of my ‘Metal goes acoustic.’ Keeping things serious, this time I’m posting a cover of an Amon Amarth track. Regular readers of Dose of Metal will know we absolutely love Amon Amarth here, so how does their music fare in an acoustic version?
The track in question is God of War Arise. The original is excellent, but I feel this is a perfect example to show that not all songs can work acoustically. The person playing the cover does a fantastic job, and his playing is near flawless, however I can’t help feeling it just doesn’t work well on acoustic. Overall, Amon Amarth needs some distortion and power to their sound, and that’s what is lost in this cover. It’s a bit like having sex and never climaxing.
Gods of war arise
Weak Recap: Second to none
Dose of Metal, the superhero of all metal blogs. We’re like Batman without the homosexual innuendos. Kicking ass, second to none. As you can see, we’re full of ourselves. It isn’t easy playing it down when you’re so awesome though. We’re super-awesome.
Moving on, we’re so full of ourselves that we’re taking turns interviewing each other because that’s what the world needs. The hero the metal world deserves.

Review: Amon Amarth – Surtur Rising
Amon Amarth are arguably the most popular Extreme Metal band currently. They got huge over the past couple of years because of their ever quality output.
When people talk about metal bands and their albums, it’s usually the first one or two albums they released that get all the praise. That’s not the case with Amon Amarth. They just seem to get better with each release or at least public opinion (as in reviews) is that they put out high quality releases all the time. Take Metal Archives for example. Every release, except ‘Fate of Norns’ (79%), has an overall rating of over 80%.
So what’s the case with their new offering ‘Surtur Rising’? Is it as good as their previous works or even better? Is it their first crap album? Make the jump to read what I think of Amon Amarth’s ‘Surtur Rising’.
Weak Recap: We’re better than you
Fact 1: We love interviews.
Fact 2: Our opinion is great.
Fact 3: Lame week recaps are lame
Taking that into consideration, we realized we do want to make a week recap at the end of each week, but not just a lame list of all our articles or something. So we decided to go narcissistic and just interview each other about the previous week’s most important headlines. Since this week recap is weak, we’re calling it a Weak Recap. Clever, right? Blow me.
So this weekend I’m interviewing Guido. We’ll take turns interviewing each other because let’s face it, we rule. So make the jump to see what he has to say about what went on in the last 7 days.
