Andy McKee to play with Dream Theater
This is a bit old news, but here it goes anyway. According to Dreamtheater.net, the fantastic guitar player that Andy McKee is will be joining Dream Theater on stage during their American leg of the tour.
Dream Theater is excited to announce a unique treat for our fans! During the December leg of our current world tour, spectacular acoustic finger style guitarist Andy McKee will be our special guest for the San Diego and Anaheim shows in California, the Mesa Arizona show, and three shows in Mexico: Monterrey, Guadalajara, and Mexico City.
…lucky bastards… And I’m not going to make it any clearer whether I’m referring to concert goers or Dream Theater…
Weak Recap: We’re amazing
This is our fifth Weak Recap, which means we ran out of writers to interview so I’m back interviewing Guido. God dammit. At least old man river up there approves.
In case you aren’t familiar with this recap thing, it’s a way for us to whore ourselves interview each other by recapping the week’s news. Pretty cool, right? Wrong… It’s lame and self-indulgent but hey, at least it’s original. Most other sites just do basic lists. Blah, we do shit properly, yo.
Make the jump and if you’re truly bored.
Andy McKee can play the electric guitar
So right after my interview with Andy McKee, where I asked him about his electric guitar playing and if he’d take the rhythm or lead position in a metal band, he uploaded a video of him doing a Dream Theater solo.
Coincidence? Yeah, probably, but it’s still cool.
Not that it’s a surprise that he is also great on the electric. If anything, the acoustic is much harder to play as you don’t have effects to hide behind (you know what I mean, Kirk?), but it’s still a bit weird seeing him without his deformed penis harpguitar acoustic guitar.
I hope he posts a video of him playing Master Of Puppets. Wouldn’t that be something else?
By the way, Andy became a father Wednesday. Make sure you congratulate him.
P.S. = Who photoshopped the headstock out of that video? TRIPPY, YO!
Weak Recap: The Big Fourth
Welcome to yet another Weak Recap. Last week, Mark did me, so this week I’ll be returning the favor. We’re also taking turns interviewing each other. As usual, we’re looking back at the week’s most important headlines. Why? Because repetition is the mother of all learning. And it’s also a pretty easy way to make another post without being original at all.
Make the jump to get reminded of how awesome we were throughout the week.
Interview: Andy McKee
Andy McKee is one of my favorite guitarists. I’m not just saying that because I got to interview him, it’s true. Like a lot of people, I first noticed him when his Drifting video went viral.
What I love about him is that unlike other ‘slap guitarists,’ he doesn’t rely on that technique for all of his work. A lot of his other songs are ‘traditionally played’ and they’re just as amazing.
Two weeks ago I wrote an article about the Top 10 Ugliest Guitars and Andy‘s harpguitar (pictured above) came in second. I said it resembles a deformed penis. Andy’s fans weren’t too happy with it, as you can read in some of the comments. But what did Andy think of the article? How did he go from listening to metal to the acoustic guitar and does he like sweatpants? Make the jump to find out!
Oh, and today is Andy’s birthday so wish him a happy birthday on his Facebook page.
