Headlines! Headlines!! Headlines!!!
So here are today’s headlines, you lucky bunch.
California lolcore deathcore band Suicide Silence were recently interviewed at the Revolver Golden Gods Awards. The video can be viewed here. What did they talk about? I have no clue. I don’t care either way, I’m too busy eating Cadbury Mini Eggs and watching this clip over and over.
Kunvuk released their their debut, ‘Immute:Jackals‘, on September 16th/2010. I guess no one bought it, so they decided to give the album out for FREE! It seems like a new trend these days, where unknown bands are releasing full albums for nothing. It makes sense, since touring is how metal bands make money these days. Let’s hope people that will download this, will also end up at one of their shows.
Steve “Lips” Kudlow from Anvil recently admit that the band finally are making money for the first time in 30 years
What has essentially happened is that I no longer work my day job. I’m making my ends meet from the band. Am I making more? I don’t know, probably. But it’s not like I’m buying a limousine. I’m existing and not having to worry about going to a job. And that’s great; I’ve worked 30 years to get there.
Good for them. My only issue is Lips complaining over and over in the documentary about “not making” it. I mean, that stuff happens all the time in the business. A lot of times, good bands never get notice, ever – sometimes you get lucky. That’s life in the metal world. By the way, in case you missed it a few days ago, you can hear a new song from Anvil here.
As usual, Max Cavalera is hoping the original Sepultura lineup will one day reunite. He didn’t exactly say it in those words, but it’s rather obvious he wants the reunion when you read this interview, or any Max Cavalera interview over the last ten years.
And that’s it for today, make sure you stay tuned to Dose of Metal for your daily dose of awesomeness!
Dose of Metal’s dose of metal
Aren’t we just awesome? While Guido was busy listening to new bands, I was busy copy/pasting posting freshly released music links. So what’s new?
VYGR have posted a new song to their Facebook page (note the URL), and it’s from their new cleverly named album Voyager. Why name the band in such a way that you’d need to name the album properly just so people would get it is beyond me.
Blindside, the band I once saw opening for Mudvayne (in 2003, you know, before this) and of which I have absolutely no memory of, also have something new. Go here if you’re interested in it.
Another band has something new. But this time, a whole album available for streaming. Above Symmetry‘s the name, above crap is the game. Hopefully, but I wouldn’t know anything about it because I’m too busy listening to Mudvayne right now.
Just kidding. You too.
Deranged have been pretty busy as well, and have come up with something for you to kill a few minutes of your time with. Click here.
Anvil have also been working hard. Unfortunately, it’s not a new documentary, but they have a new song. FukenEh!
That’s it…
NOT! Surprise round of new music videos after the jump.
Metal on Simpsons
Hey! Did you watch Simpsons last night? I didn’t because Simpsons haven’t been funny since season 7, but apparently Anvil had their most popular song, “Metal on Metal” played last night.
Somebody on Facebook posted the video and you can view it here.
Anvil do jazz
Anvil, the band better known for the documentary about them rather then their music, has started working on their new album. Here’s what the drummer, Robb Reiner had to say about the direction they’re taking:
“It’s going to be the best album we’ve ever done. We’ve invented a new genre; we’ve invented metal-jazz . . . We’ve pioneered something that I believe is going to be revolutionary. I’m a jazz drummer: the world knows that I just happen to be in a metal band. And Lips [guitarist/vocalist Steve Kudlow] listens to a lot of old-time swing jazz these days.” Lips added, “I’ve been getting into Benny Goodman and Gene Krupa, really fast swing. It’s really similar to speed metal, it’s just that it’s done with horns.” Reiner continued, “We play this stuff live right now, and it blows people away beyond anything I’ve ever seen. We’ve innocently created something that’s never been done before.”
I thought a bunch of bands already combined elements of jazz in their music, but I guess I was wrong. We’ll hear their take on it once the album’s out. Excited? No? Have no idea who Anvil are? Didn’t think so. I do recommend watching their documentary, it’s called Anvil! The Story of Anvil.
Metal On Anvil
Anvil released a documentary last year, “Anvil! The Story Of Anvil“.
If you have no idea who they are, basically they were considered the next big metal band to sell millions during the 1980s. They help influence bands like Anthrax, Slayer and Metallica. They also played some big tours and festivals. They never made it and from 1987-2007, they continued to release a lot of albums. Even if some of them were lacking quality, it didn’t stop Anvil from chasing their dream to be metal gods.
Well, they have some news. Anvil were honored for yet another award. Blabbermouth has all the details. If you wanna hear some Anvil, you know what to do.
