Friday Top 10: Worst band transformations, part 2
Another Friday, another Top 10. Except this one is the same as the last one.
Well, kind of. Continuing from last time, we take a look at ten more examples of band transformations we could have lived without. Note that the list is not really in a particular order, and then make the jump.
Arch Enemy interview
God I hate Sundays. The day of rest? The day of boredom, more like. Being a full blown Satanist (I kid, I kid) means I also hate the religious connections that link to Sunday, as a day of worship. I guess I could sacrifice a goat or two, but that gets boring too after a while.
By now, assuming you’re still reading and haven’t got bored, you’re probably wondering what my little opening rant has to do with an Arch Enemy interview. Well, nothing to be honest. It’s just that Sunday is also a boring day for Metal news and I just hate this fucking day.
Arch Enemy were recently interviewed by CraveMetal.com. Who cares though? Yawn. If you’re really, really, really bored, then check out the interview in the video above. Otherwise, just go ahead and wait for the awesome Weak Recap to make your Sunday a better one.
Will Diamond Head join The Big Four jam?
I actually wanted to go to Knebworth for Sonisphere, but couldn’t. Man, am I going to regret this…
Diamond Head (whose ‘Am I Evil’ song is usually played when the four bands jam) will play on the same stage as Anthrax, Slayer, Megadeth and Metallica. So will they join the jam at the end?
The video above with David Ellefson and Shawn Drover of Megadeth seems to hint towards that idea. It would be pretty epic indeed, and I don’t see why they wouldn’t.
I hope it will be pro shot so we don’t have to witness it via godawful cellphone footage.
UPDATE: Metallica.com confirms that Brian Tatler of Diamond Head joined the jam.
Speaking of Sonisphere, other musicians playing that festival were asked to pick their favorite Big Four band. Their quotes, after the jump.
Saturday morning headlines!
Soundgarden have released tour dates for their upcoming North American tour. I grew up with Soundgarden so seeing them live is a no-brainer. However, my big complaint is Coheed and Cambria opening at the show i’m attending, while The Mars Volta, Mastodon and Queens Of The Stone Age will be at other shows of the tour. Lame. More information can be found here.
The trailer for The Big Four show at Yankee Stadium (pictured above) has been posted online and you can view it here. It was pretty cool, but the “Four of the heaviest bands of all time” slogan made me roll on the floor laughing my ass off (what can I say, I’m more of an metal elitist than everyone at Metal Archives).
Melodic death metal act Arch Enemy have uploaded a new song titled ‘Blood Stained Cross’, which is from their upcoming new album Khaos Legions. You can listen to the song here. Oops. Sorry, I meant here.
Mötley Crüe bassiest Nikki Sixx recently told about.com “I think our best record is still in us.” — I like Nikki, I really do. I think he’s a pretty cool guy. But after reading that, I have a feeling he is back on the heroin for that interview and thinking it’s 1983.
Arch Enemy is (not) a female fronted band
Which confirms my thoughts that Angela Gossow is in fact a guy. Just kidding lolz, but she did have a say on the whole thing, and here it is:
“What does it mean? That the singer has tits! [Laughs] It doesn’t say anything about the music, or the quality of the musicianship, and that’s something that we’ve always tried to sail around and avoid. It’s a bad thing for us, and other bands go well with it and it’s okay if they’re comfortable with it, but we’re not a ‘female-fronted’ band. We’re an extreme metal band, and that’s all I want us to be remembered as.”
Okay, I agree to the message she’s trying to put out, dumb labels are dumb, but let’s get this straight, if you’re a chick fronting a band, you’re by basic logic a “female fronted band.” You might be extreme, you might be great, you might be shit, but unless you whip out your dick anytime soon, Angela, your band is female fronted.
