Even more bands for Download
More than a dozen new bands have been added to the Download 2012 line up, and if you had any doubts about going or not, one (or more) of these will probably help you make your mind up:
- Megadeth
- Slash
- Rise Against
- Steel Panther
- Black Label Society
- Kyuss Lives!
- Five Finger Death Punch
- As I Lay Dying
- Billy Talent
- Periphery
- Fear Factory
- and more!
Billy Talent?!? OMG I’M SO THERE!!!1!1 No, but seriously, that’s some nice lineup, joining the already awesome lineup of Metallica, Black Sabbath, and most importantly – The Prodigy, plus a shitload of more good to great bands.
Zakk Wylde blames BLS on Ozzy
When you’re responsible for awful things such as Black Label Society, no wonder you’re not gonna take any of the blame, and instead will just point the finger at the old mumbling guy who can’t defend himself.
Here’s what Zakk had to say in a recent interview about the band he named after a mediocre brand of whiskey:
“Without Ozzy, there’d be no Black Label. That’s just a fact. So the whole thing is, nothing was going on, and then Ozzy just got to the point where he was like, ‘Zakk, I gotta get another guitar player.’ I’m like, ‘Ozz, I don’t blame you.’ I’m like, I’m sitting around here, I don’t know whether we’re coming or going, or whether we’re gonna do this thing or not do this thing.“

Real mature, Zakk, let’s just blame it all on the guy with Parkinson’s disease. What is he gonna do? Shake about with anger?
Leaving all jokes aside, Zakk’s always been faithful to Ozzy and had only nice things to say about him. In a business where talking shit about other musicians is the ‘way to go,’ Zakk really is a breath of fresh air. And I actually love Black Label. The whiskey, not the band…
Video of the Week: Black Label Society
An obvious choice, for a huge Pan-fucking-tera and Dimebag fan like myself, Black Label Society’s tribute to the late Dimebag Darrell — ‘In This River’ — just had to make Video of the Week sooner or later.
Even though the song wasn’t written with Dime in mind, as it was written prior to his death, the video for this song is probably still the greatest tribute to the late guitar-god. And the song just works perfectly here.
Just sit back, hit play and remember one of the greatest metal guitarists of all time. Getcha Pull.
S&BLS: Zakk not so wild anymore
We all know Zakk Wylde. A beer-drinking, motorbike-riding, epic-beard-having, bad-ass motherfucker. Wylde isn’t just his name (his real name is Jeffrey Phillip Wielandt, by the way), he is wild. Or rather, was.
He had to stop drinking, for understandable reasons, a while ago and now he’s going really soft. How? Well, just read the following statement of Zakk about Black Label Society’s upcoming live DVD:
“[We’ll] get a pedal steel player, some background singers, a string quartet…Just go the whole nine yards on this instead of just the full-blown, blow-it-out band. We have two (DVDs) out there with the full-blown band, heavy insanity. This’ll just be something different.”
Full interview here.
I might be the only one but I really enjoyed Metallica’s S&M, and I overall just like metal mixed with piano and/or strings, so I’m actually looking forward to this. Let’s just call it S&BLS for now.
Weak Recap: Yes we can, bitch!
A few months ago, I had a dream. A dream that we could recap our weeks on Sunday without falling in the blog cliche of just making a list of some of our articles. And my creativity and my egomania had sex and came up with the offspring that is The Weak Recap.
Basically we recap the week by interviewing each other. It feeds our egos and it’s letting you know how awesome we’ve been the week before.
So now it’s my turn to interview NFL legend, influential guitarist and all-around amazing metal bloger, Simo. After the jump.
