Interview: Kirk Windstein (Crowbar, Down, Kingdom of Sorrow)
Kirk Windstein is a man of many talents, but not a man of many words. He plays in three awesome bands, and he got to be interviewed by an awesome site. In case you didn’t figure it out by the post title and the previous sentence, he was interviewed by us. And in case you didn’t figure it out by everything and anything written by us, we’re awesome.
Yours truly got a chance to do a quick chat with him, so make the jump and read it. How quick was it? Well, you’ll realize what I meant by “not a man of many words” shortly after you start reading it. Which won’t take much, because the entire interview could fit a tweet and a half. Maybe Kirk’s become eco conscious, and he’s saving bytes? What do I know… Just make the jump already.
Down and Crowbar sitting in a tree…
So Down were joined by Crowbar bassist Patrick Bruders for a show at The Hangar in New Orleans on 11 March 2011. You’ll probably thinking… Gee, I wish I could see that.
BAM! You’re in luck. You can! The whole concert is available here. If you make the jump, you’ll see a few clips as well, cause we’re awesome like that.
If you’re wondering who made that image above. I did. It’s two crowbars and a Down cover.Pretty amazing, isn’t it? I bet you wish you were me.
Down want your money
New Orleans’ finest, Down, have scheduled dates for a 7 date US tour, starting up on March 4th. The dates are as follows:
March

28 – New York, NY – Best Buy Theatre
29 – Philadelphia, PA – Trocadero

Now I’m not too fond of VIP Experience packages (I’m cheap more of an old school guy just interested in simply seeing bands perform live at a show) but I know lot of you guys are into these packages so here you go:
You get your typical meet-and-greet with band members, photo taken with them, early entry to see the pre-concert sound check, a general-admission ticket, a Pepper Keenan-designed T-shirt , a VIP access laminate and a $5 gift card to the Down-Nola.com online store.
Tickets to the shows can be found here and here
2011: The albums to watch out for (Pt. 2)
Hello and welcome to part 2 of my 2011: The albums to watch out for feature. I know, I know, not a very catchy name is it? But in my defence, I haven’t stopped drinking since Christmas Eve and I’m pretty sure I’ve now killed all but one of my remaining brain cells.
If you haven’t read part one yet, why not? Go do it now. And then come back and read part 2 after the jump.
New Down album in 2011
According to Pepper Keenan we’re getting a new Down album in Summer 2011.
“Right now we’re working on new material, so we’re trying to keep up more of a brisk pace, once we get some new shit out. We’re moving backwards towards the “Nola” sound, go-for-the-throat kind of shit. We’re not putting too much time into the production of it, like the last two records we did. Which I enjoyed doing, but now it’s time to go backwards a little bit, have some fun. So maybe this summer.” […] “2011 summer. Bank on it, kid.”
When asked about the rumors that Down are going to release an EP, Pepper had the following to say;
“Well it’s more than a four-song EP, but we’re talking about finally getting this thing together. I don’t wanna go into any detail yet, but it’s going to be pretty massive. The first EP will be the first section of a whole big deal we’re working on. It’s gonna be fucking nuts.”

And now a wild guess: The next Down album is going to be called… Down V (because ‘Diary of a Mad Band’ was Down IV). Oh yeah, I’m smart.
