Pipe Dream Theater

After getting kicked out of leaving Avenged Sevenfold, apparently Mike Portnoy tried to join his old band back. Can you guess what happened?

I reached out to the guys to try and make amends and offered to reconcile for the sake of having peace back in our lives… (plus I know how much it meant to a lot of the fans…) I figured it was still possible to try and save us, because they hadn’t made any announcements yet or begun any public activity with another drummer… but sadly, they declined my offer (well, actually their lawyer did… they didn’t even tell me themselves…) said Mike while crying.

Read full statement here.

Again with the ‘fans’ excuse. Oh well, I wouldn’t worry if I was you, Mike, reunions are IN right now and after a few years of touring without you, a label fatcat will just go to the band and say “Listen, we need a reunion tour and a reunion album ASAP. Get Portnoy on the phone!”

In the meantime, isn’t it a bit unfair how a drummer like Portnoy gets tossed around between bands but Lars Ulrich is still in one of the biggest metal bands of all time? That’s like Megan Fox being rejected by ugly men while Missy Elliot gets to bang George Clooney. Oh well…

Friday Top 10: The year 2010 in metal

2010

2010. Not as good as 2001, but still okay. Can you believe the year is coming to and end? I barely can. And then I got the job to compile a list of the most important things that happened this year. When I say the most important, I mean the most important in metal. No matter what your mom tells you, nothing is more important than metal.

Make the jump to see what made the list, and bitch about the things that haven’t.

Mike Portnoy finally speaks…

The metal community was shocked to its core when news got out that Dream Theater actually have a drummer. For years we’ve been guessing it’s either EZ Drummer or FL Studio behind the band’s unique sound, but nope, he’s real… His name is Mike Portnoy.

Sadly, he left the band, and while the band decides which Cubase plugin to replace him with, Mike himself opens up to Q104.3 FM about the reasons of his departure.

“Q: You didn’t wanna quit and obviously they didn’t want you out. It really just seems like it was a disagreement as to where you were in your life with the band and what they wanted to do, and I guess the odds came out to four against one, and they decide they’re going without you.

Portnoy: That’s exactly it. I mean, I didn’t wanna quit and they didn’t want me to leave, but yet here we are.

So there you have it…

When asked about why Petrucci uses kid-sized guitar straps, Portnoy had no comment.
