Some headlines…
Chimaira (pictured above) lost their keyboardist. His name is Chris Spicuzza and I have no idea if he’s actually in the photo above or not. It says he’s also a programmer… I didn’t know metal bands needed coders.
August Burns Red (who?) set a title for their upcoming album. It’s called Leveler and it’s due on June 21st. Now, I don’t know about you, but if I were in that band, I’d release all my shit in August.
Trivium are also working on a new album. In fact, they’re almost finishing it. This is about as exciting as finding our you need an anus operation.
In Flames are also releasing something. For fuck’s sake, everyone’s releasing everything right now. Anyway, these guys are releasing a digital single on May 10th and if you’re anxious about it, blow me.
Alice In Chains will make a special concert announcement next week. It’s still ‘this week’ where I live so no point discussing this yet.
In Flames are happy to be on Century Media
Swedish metallers In Flames recently signed to Century Media records. Lead vocalist, Anders Fridén seems rather excited.
“This is number 10… Album number 10! That we even made it this far, that is amazing. Then, to deliver the album of our career that is something else… It’s fast, slow, heavy and mellow. It’s happy, sad, angry and calm. Sounds Of A Playground Fading is everything we ever done on crack (it’s a metaphor boys and girls), it’s cask strength whisky when it’s THAT perfect moment. Use and abuse!!!!! By the way, we are happy to be in bed with Century Media. They know the business, we know the music, a perfect match. What can possibly go wrong… ha, ha, ha!!!!!!” – Anders Fridén.
Album number 10, eh? Well, they have come a long way. Helped pioneer the Melodic Death Metal genre, trading singers with Dark Tranquility in the early 90s, releasing a masterpiece in 1996, failing to try and sound like Korn years later and continuing to sell a lot of albums for a Metal band. Metal elitists can trash and call them sellouts all they want, but In Flames have accomplished quite a bit over the years.
Make the jump to see when ‘Sounds Of A Playground Fading‘ will be released in your country.
Yesterday’s headlines
I’ve been a bit absent from this site for the last couple of weeks because I’m a winner, and I’m #winning, and my goddesses kept me busy. But now I’m back, and because there’s no news for today, I’ll turn back the hands of time (#winning) and give you Monday’s headlines a day too late.
Queens Of The Stone Age (pictured above) are performing on Conan next month. This would be interesting news if the year was 1999.
Texas is a great state. They gave us Pantera. But then they also gave us Hellyeah. Anyway, the city of Austin decided that “Motörhead Day” will be celebrated on March 8th. Let’s be honest, Lemmy does look like he belongs in Texas, so it’s a good match.
In Flames have a new guitarist. I didn’t even know they lost their previous guitarist. Wait, who are In Flames again?
Marilyn Manson walked on a runway at a fashion show, because when you say “Marilyn Manson” you immediately think “model, fashion, runway, hot.” How could this happen? Well, it was in Japan, so go figure.
Dose of Death
Why the cheesy image? Because I don’t take myself seriously, and neither should you. Welcome to my weekly feature where I’m normally drunk and/or hungover, and write some garbage about music in a way that makes me sound more knowledgeable than I really am. Or maybe I just fail at that..
The topic for this week: Death Metal. Admittedly, not my favorite genre, but one that fascinates me all the same. Death Metal is an extreme sub-genre of Metal (no, really?) that began in America (particularly Florida) in the 1980s. But I’m not fucking Wikipedia and this isn’t no history lesson, I’m just here for the music, and so should you be, so get your Death dosage after the jump. Don’t worry, an overdose won’t lead to death. Only awesomeness.
Dave is gonna be busy this summer
After news broke that The Big Four would only do one U.S. show, many gullible hopeful fans were expecting more dates to be added. Well, maybe this news will make them reconsider, as Dave and co. will be busy this summer with their own tour.
“Disturbed and Godsmack are rumored to be topping the bill on this summer’s Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival tour, which is expected to kick off sometime in July. Also scheduled to appear are Megadeth, Machine Head, In Flames, Suicide Silence and Unearth, among others.“ writes Blabbermouth. Full details tomorrow, January 26th.

Tough luck, guys. Seems like Megadeth is busy touring with Disturbed and Godsmack… Who cares about Metallica, Slayer and Anthrax, right? Maybe you get lucky and Sully Erna performs some of his amazing solo stuff, too. Fingers crossed!
