Get well soon, Jon Lord.
Legendary Deep Purple co-founder Jon Lord is unfortunately battling cancer. A message on his official site says the following:
“I would like all my friends, followers, fans and fellow travelers to know that I am fighting cancer and will therefore be taking a break from performing while getting the treatment and cure.
I shall of course be continuing to write music – in my world it just has to be part of the therapy – and I fully expect to be back in good shape next year.
God bless and see you soon
Jon”
Get well soon, Jon! I’m not religious, spiritual or superstitious so I don’t know what else to say, but on behalf of everyone at DoM, have a speedy recovery.
Whocares? I do and so should you
Do you care that Whocares have released some singles details? Perhaps you will if I were to tell you that Whocares is the name of the new music project staring none other than the legends that are Ian Gillan (Deep Purple), Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath etc), Jon Lord, Nicko McBrain (Iron Maiden), Mikko “Linde” Lindström (HIM) and Jason Newsted (Metallica). Seriously, this must be the superest super group ever. Like Superman on speed.
Whocares will release both ‘Out Of My Mind‘ and ‘Holy Water’ on May 6: The CD single will also contain the video clip of ‘Out Of My Mind’ and a 40-minute documentary that displays Gillan’s and Iommi’s involvement with the Armenia cause over the years.
Check out the trailer above, and read Blabbermouth for more information.
Newsted got a job
At least a job that doesn’t involve flipping burgers…
I kid, I kid, I love Jason… Well, loved him more when he was relevant, but… Ok, enough hasbeen jokes. He’s made an appearance ‘all-star’ band (we told you about earlier) whose name pretty much sums up how we feel about it.
“Former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted and Mikko “Linde” Lindström, guitarist for the Finnish “love metal” band HIM, have recorded guest appearances on the track “Out Of My Mind” from the all-star charity project Whocares — featuring Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi and Deep Purple singer Ian Gillan alongside keyboardist Jon Lord (Deep Purple, Whitesnake ) and drummer Nicko McBrain (Iron Maiden).”
IDONTREALLYCARE, but to be honest, it doesn’t sound as bad as other ‘all-star bands’ like let’s say Velvet Revolver. Will probably have to check out their song(s) anyway when I’ll post about them in the future, so color me mildly interested. If you’re a skinny Asian chick with huge tits, color me green and do me like I’m Godzilla.

A dream never dreamt
According to former Deep Purple keyboardist, Jon Lord, who recently spoke to UK’s Classic Rock magazine, a reunion of the Mk. III lineup is just a dream and nothing more.
“I think it’s a dream too far,” Lord said. “I know a lot of people would like it to happen, but it would have to have Ian Paice involved, and right now he’s committed to the current Purple lineup.”
Seriously, does anyone still care? What is it with bands with 73-year-old members talking about reunions? Just let it stay in the past. If you do care, however, read more here.
Black & Purple Maiden
Tony Iommi (Guitars, Black Sabbath), Ian Gillan (Vocals, Deep Purple), Nicko McBrain (Drums, Iron Maiden) and Jon Lord (Keyboard, Deep Purple) are going to record a charity song to raise money to rebuild the Armenian Music School.
Iommi and Gillan were already involved in a charity re-recording of Deep Purple’s biggest hit ‘Smoke on the Water’ to raise money for something something* in Armenia in 1989.
* If you really want to know what they raised money for, read the Blabbermouth article.
My thoughts: Deep Purple are still doing music? And Nicko McBrain still has a weird shaped nose.
