Weak Recap: First Class
Hey, guess who’s back, it’s those regular superheroes of the Metal community, Mark and Guido. Once again, we’ll be recapping what we’ve been up to this past week (usually a combination of sleeping, eating and masturbation – we all lead interesting lives here at Dose of Metal).
So, basically it’s that time of the week when someone massages my ego, I then in turn massage their ego, then they massage my… You know what, doesn’t matter. Make the jump to see my awesome interview with the awesome Guido.
The other Korn members aren’t Stillwell fans
Fieldy gave an insightful interview about his relationship with former Korn guitarist Head and about the other members of Korn’s opinion on his side project. I use ‘insightful’ loosely, because who cares, right? But still, maybe you have weird tastes in music and actually give a damn, so here you go:
“It seems I’ll get in touch with [Brian ‘Head’ Welch] about once a year or so. I’m probably about due to call him and say what’s up. But he’s out touring with his band. To tell you the truth, I don’t even know what happened with him leaving Korn. I know some goofy words were said back and forth, but I bet you nobody in Korn could even tell you for sure. I think it’d be cool if he came back and rocked with us. I’d be down. But there’s three other dudes in the band, so I don’t know.“
Is he saying what I think he’s saying? Could Head eventually come back in Korn? Is Korn gonna mix Christian Metal with their delightful mix of rock, rap and whatever else they include in their amazing sound? Wow!!! Sounds AWESOME!
“They actually watch us almost every night, but they don’t seem very animated about things, for some reason. They’re not coming up to me, like, “Dude, that is sooo dope!” But I’ll see Jonathan watching us from the side of the stage from time to time. I saw Munky watching us from the soundboard the other night.“

Can you really blame Jonathan and Munky for not going “That is sooo dope!” about Stillwell? No one can lie with such conviction.
Weak Recap: Yes we can, bitch!
A few months ago, I had a dream. A dream that we could recap our weeks on Sunday without falling in the blog cliche of just making a list of some of our articles. And my creativity and my egomania had sex and came up with the offspring that is The Weak Recap.
Basically we recap the week by interviewing each other. It feeds our egos and it’s letting you know how awesome we’ve been the week before.
So now it’s my turn to interview NFL legend, influential guitarist and all-around amazing metal bloger, Simo. After the jump.
Confession time: New Korn
It’s been a while since Korn debuted their new song ‘Get Up,’ a dubstep collaboration with Skrillex, a guy who used to sing for a terrible band called From First To Last, who once featured Limp Bizkit guitarist Wes Borland. So this has Nu Metal written all over it.
I’ve got to admit, I grew up with that shit. So, yes, I was into Korn but lost interest after I found out about… well, better bands. I can see how Korn are appealing to younger audiences, because it was appealing to me when I was a teenager. I view Korn as gateway drug like marijuana. It’s fun when you’re young but the older you get, the more embarrasing it is to still use, or in this case listen to, it.
Back when ‘Get Up’ was released, I had no interest in listening to it whatsover, which was apparent from my post about it. But yesterday, I mixed two gateway drugs. Marijuana and Korn. And what can I say? I did listen to the song and… this is really hard for me to say… I enjoyed it.
Don’t get me wrong, the whole “Shut the fuck up! Get up!” part is stupid and the lyrics are horrible but that’s to be expected. The pre-chorus is catchy as hell though. Also, this is the first dubstep song I’ve ever heard. Honestly. I’ve heard of it but never heard it, if you catch my drift. The whole thing sounds like a poor man’s Aphex Twin with lots of bass to me but maybe that’s just me.
So yeah, I just had to get this out of my system. We all have guilty pleasures, don’t we? I don’t like, nor listen to, Korn anymore but I quite enjoyed ‘Get Up.’ But, in the end, I still view Korn as something that should have gone away ten years ago. One solid song just can’t change my view on that.
Head will rejoin Korn
…if he wants to start making some money again. I’m sorry, did I mislead you there?
Brian ‘Head’ Welch, formerly of Korn, has apparently filed for bankruptcy, according to Kornspace.com. The problems don’t stop there either, he’s also in the middle of a legal dispute with his own record label, with him in addition being under a legal contract to provide at least two more solo albums.
So may that be a lesson to you, kids: Don’t ever leave popular projects, or “find” Christ. He’ll It’ll only screw you over. Or maybe this is just karma for inflicting Nu Metal onto the world, who knows?
